Performance-oriented but still up for doin’ nothin’: Baggies™ Stretch shorts are great for climbing, hiking and yoga; they get their stretch from our Stretch Wavefarer™ fabric (stretch-woven nylon/spandex); 9" inseam.

Anyone who’s stemmed their way up El Matador knows the value of stretch. These Baggies™ get their forgiving flex from a lightweight, stretch-woven nylon/spandex fabric that’s durable, quick-drying and has 40-UPF sun protection. For serious body dynamics (think yoga), they have a skin-friendly elasticized waistband and internal drawstring. The vertical side pockets feature drain-and-dry mesh, and the rear patch pocket closes securely with a snap button. Inseam is 9".

Sun Protection

Lacking fur, feathers or scales, we humans have to think up clever ways to protect ourselves from the sun. Products with the UPF designation provide built-in sun protection that won’t wear off.

UPF stands for “Ultraviolet Protection Factor.” This value represents the fractional amount of the sun’s harmful UV rays that pass through a fabric. A rating of “25” indicates that only 1/25th , or 4% of the UV rays pass through the garment.

Patagonia products with rated UPF protection are tested independently to meet Australia/New Zealand or AATCC protocols. A rating of 15-24 earns a product a rating of “good”; a rating of 25-39 is "very good"; and a rating of 40-50+ is “excellent.”*

* When tested in accordance with Australian/New Zealand test methods AS/NZS 4399 or USA test methods AATCC 183/ASTM D6603/ASTM D6544.

Environmentally Friendly

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.
