Hemp is an alternative natural fiber that’s cultivated with low impact on the environment. It’s one of the most durable natural fibers on the planet, and results in a fabric with a wonderful drape, comparable to linen.
Some of the recycled nylon we use comes from post-industrial waste fiber, yarn collected from a spinning factory, and waste from the weaving mills that can be processed into reusable nylon fiber.
In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so.
Responsibly Sourced Merino Wool
Learn about our groundbreaking partnership with The Nature Conservancy and Ovis XXI to promote sustainable grazing practices in the Patagonia region and produce the finest merino wool.
One of the ways we can lessen the impact of wool production is to recycle used wool.
In 1996, with an increased awareness of the dangers of pesticide use and synthetic fertilizers in growing conventional cotton, we began the exclusive use of organically grown cotton in all of our cotton products.
TENCEL® is a branded lyocell fiber that comes from the pulp of eucalyptus trees. The trees are grown on sustainably run farms certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
Compared to traditional neoprene made from petroleum (or limestone), guayule rubber is a renewable resource that provides improved elasticity and softness and can be replaced faster than the product wears out.
Using a process known as garnetting, discarded wool sweaters are shred into usable fiber, mixed with polyester and nylon for strength, and woven anew without additional fabric dyes.
The colors of the yarns—whites, browns and tans—are as nature intended, which gives the material an even softer hand and lessens the use of water, chemicals and energy.
Patagonia has worked with bluesign® technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process.
(durable water repellent)
DWR fabric finish repels light rain and snow and decreases dry times.
H2No PERFORMANCE STANDARD
H2No Performance Standard is Patagonia’s benchmark for waterproofness, breathability and durability, which ensures a high level of long-term performance backed by our Ironclad Guarantee.
POLYGIENE® ODOR CONTROL
Polygiene® technology is a naturally occurring antimicrobial that provides effective and permanent odor control by stopping the growth of bacteria in the fabric. It’s the best-performing and most environmentally friendly anti-odor technology available.
Regulator® fleece insulation provides phenomenal compressibility, light weight warmth, and moisture transport, whether used alone or as part of a layering system.
2.5-LAYER H2NO PERFORMANCE STANDARD SHELL
2.5-layer H2No Performance Standard shell fabrics are completely waterproof, windproof, breathable and highly packable.
FAIR TRADE CERTIFIED™
Garment workers are paid some of the world’s lowest industrial wages and in many cases have little hope of getting ahead. In an attempt to improve the lives of those who make our products, we offer 10 women’s sportswear styles that are Fair Trade Certified for sewing.

100% Traceable Down Insulation
All of our down products, as of our fall 2014 product season, contain 100% Traceable Down, which means every cluster can be traced back to birds that were never force-fed and never live-plucked.
3-LAYER H2NO PERFORMANCE STANDARD SHELL
3-layer H2No Performance Standard fabrics are completely waterproof, windproof and breathable.
4-LAYER H2NO® PERFORMANCE STANDARD SHELL
Patagonia developed the 4-layer fabric construction for our waders to increase breathability and abrasion resistance, move moisture away from the body, and decrease the weight.
2-layer GORE-TEX® Shell
The 2-layer GORE-TEX® membrane is bonded to an outer material, then combined with a free-flowing lining. The benefit: a soft, lightweight garment that keeps you dry and lets you move freely.
3-layer GORE-TEX® Shell
The 3-layer GORE-TEX® membrane is sandwiched between a soft outer material and a knit polyester backing material that increases durability. These garments keep you comfortable and protected from the elements without adding extra bulk or weight.
3-Layer GORE-TEX® Pro Shell
GORE-TEX Pro products have a 3-layer construction that comprises a special high performance GORE-TEX membrane, bonded to a tough outer material and a specially developed robust inner lining.
Capilene® Polyester Baselayer
Made from moisture-wicking polyester, Capilene® synthetic baselayers wick moisture away from your skin, breathe efficiently and dry fast to provide the foundation for any layering system for any pursuit.
Encapsil™ technology not only produces water-repellent down, but also delivers a significant, additional advantage no one else can provide; an off-the-charts, unprecedented fill power of 1000.
GORE-TEX® Paclite® Shell
GORE-TEX® Paclite® Technology garments are made from a GORE-TEX® membrane, bonded to an outer shell material, then covered by a protective layer made of an oleophobic (oil hating) substance and carbon.
Merino Wool Baselayer
Exceptionally soft, naturally breathable and warm even when wet, merino wool regulates your body temperature, has a great warmth-to-weight ratio, naturally controls odor and stretches as you move.
The PLUS compounds and PLUSfoam® we use in a selection of our flips are 100% recyclable.
Polartec® Power Shield® Pro
Designed to strike the optimal balance between weather protection and breathability, Polartec® Power Shield Pro fabrics feature a smooth, tightly woven face for great abrasion resistance, and a polyester back for a high warmth-to-weight ratio.
Polartec® Windbloc® fabrics block 100% of the wind and provides maximum protection from the elements. The soft hand, stretch, and DWR finish combine to make this the highest quality, most comfortable windproof fleece product on the market.
We use PrimaLoft insulation inside insulated garments for its warmth, compressibility, and soft comfort.
