Though each Patagonia® product is designed and shaped specifically for its intended use, we can generalize our fit descriptions in four ways:
Formfitting: Conforms to the body’s contours.
Slim Fit: Closer-fitting. Slim-fitting technical garments may be worn over baselayers and light midlayers.
Regular Fit: Neither slim nor oversized. Regular-fitting technical garments may be worn over heavier midlayers.
Relaxed Fit: Drapes loosely on the body.
Measurements refer to body size, not garment dimensions, unless noted. Check the item description in the online store for special sizing notes. If you have questions, please check with Customer Service or send us an email to firstname.lastname@example.org before ordering.
Shrinkage: Approximate shrinkage percentages are shown on product pages within the online store. Because garment length is most affected by shrinkage, use these to estimate how much length loss will occur. We test all of our clothes for shrinkage and build in an allowance if we expect 6% shrinkage or more, which we state in product page copy.
Kids: When choosing sizes, height and weight are most important. We provide age as a rough guideline.
Neck: Use a piece of string to measure the fullest part of the neck.
Chest/Bust: Measurement should be taken around the fullest part, just under the arms and across the shoulder blades.
Sleeves: With elbow bent, measure from center (back) of neck to elbow and down to wrist.
Waist: Measure loosely around waist at the height you prefer to wear the waistband.
Inseam: Take a pair of pants that fit well and measure from the crotch to the bottom of leg. All pants come with a finished hem.
Hips: Stand, feet together, and measure around the largest circumference at hips.
Hands: Measure around the fullest part of the hand, not including the thumb.
Luggage: Our luggage measurements are listed as Width x Height x Depth when reasonably filled; we calculate the total volume using an ASTM standard method.
