bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good fit, soft, wish more protective against snow I bought I bought the 18-24 month size in a sale color (black and neon green) for my nearly 2-year-old daughter. My daughter usually wears 3T (she is fairly big for her age), but Patagonia sizes are much different from other brands - I always go a size smaller, and 18-24 month is essentially 2T. The pros: fairly warm, soft fleece, decent fit (takes some wiggling to get her thumb in, which is the same with any mitten I have tried), fairly tight elastic wrist part (fits under jackets easily). The only cons: the price (try to get the sale colors) and the fleece doesn't help once it gets snowy/slushy. I wish Patagonia would take this mitten and cover it with the material from their Baby Down Sweaters to make them more water repellent.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Extremely Large and thin I want to love these, but after trying them out on a recent camping trip, I am underwhelmed. I have a 4.5 month old who is very small for her age. because of this, I expected the 3-6 month to be big but these wont even stay on her hands. For a point of reference, she was 11 lbs and in the 5th percentile at her check up a few weeks ago. Anyways, these gloves will not work for her for a long time and they aren't as warm as I had hoped. Side note, I love the booties I bought her and they have elastic around the ankles so they don't go anywhere! I live in CO and we have some pretty cold days in the winter where these will not do anything for her.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great, but a bit big These are great quality mittens; soft, durable, and easy to get on. The elastic around the wrist is also a good size and fit. I purchased them for my 19 month old, thus ordered the size 18-24mo. That ended up being a bit too big for him, even though he's slightly above average for height and weight. Otherwise, great mittens.
