We’re pretty sure this is the burliest messenger bag to ever meet a daily commute. Tough and highly weather-resistant, it protects its contents from travel’s travails. A roomy main compartment holds books, papers, running shoes and a lunch. Inside, a padded sleeve protects most 15" laptops, and two mesh pockets come equipped with a key keeper and an organization panel to hold your pens, small items and a phone. The flap has an outer pocket that seals with a water-shedding zipper, two daisy chains to hold your bike lock and a webbing loop to attach a bike light. Designed for a vertical fit while you’re riding, the fully adjustable shoulder strap switches between right- or left-carry and features a single-handed, quick adjustment for a precise fit. A padded back panel softens the loads. With a topside carrying handle, reflective material for visibility at night and lash straps to hold a yoga pad. Made from 13-oz 450-denier 100% polyester ripstop (50% solution-dyed) with a TPU-film laminate and a DWR (durable water repellent) finish.

Water Resistant

DWR (durable water repellent) fabric finish repels light rain and snow and decreases dry times. When DWR is used in conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Going strong (but one suggestion) This bag has probably 500k miles on it, but to be fair the most dangerous setting it sees is a 5am Monday flight before I've had enough coffee. Works as advertised and is tough; carries much more than its designers probably imagined. I would like the interior pockets to close, however - zip, click, whatever, so as the bag gets rolled over I'm not always having to dig into the bottom through my cords and junk.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very Disappointed The bag materials are very nice but the strap design is an EPIC fail. I have the red bag with gold strap and trim. A messenger bag should have real metal D rings that swivel. This bag's dinky plastic I (?) ring allows the strap to bunch up and get twisted. In fact the entire strap twists. Fail. Also to this day I have yet to purchase a Patagonia bag that has a real working person's shoulder pad. However, other Patagonia bags had real D rings and hardware and you could replace the flimsy strap. Can't do that on this bag as the strap is sewn into the body. Bad design. And I can't think of any mods I can do to remedy. Cute as a briefcase but it sucks if you do real work and need to wear it cross body. Can't see how Yvon and the designers let this out of the shop. I am disappointed as I bought it to be a real messenger and plan to carry a rangefinder, extra lens and phone, keys iPad mini. The strap twists so much I am seriously considering returning it and I have never felt compelled to do that with Patagonia gear.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Laptop pocket has a problem I just ordered this bag, but when I got it I found out that my 15 inch Laptop will not fit in the compartment for computers. I will be returning it, but other then the pocket issue, bag looks great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great bag Bought this for my son for school. He is visually impaired and the open main compartment and lighter color interior is helping him stay more organized for school. Wish it had an outside water bottle pocket though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bag... I bought the Golden Jungle color 24L messenger bag. Great Bag ! Looks Great too ! It fits so many items well. I primarily used it to take around foam pouch enclosed 12x12" Aluminum Panels of my Art ( to Galleries. It comfortably accommodated 3 or 4 of my panels and my 4x4" 'lobby card' packages of other works. It was a comfortable carry, whether slung across the body, or just hanging on a single shoulder. Nice job Patagonia ! Take a bow...

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't like it. I totally miss the Half Mass bag, I have owned 3 since Patagonia started making them. The Black Hole messenger 24L bag was the new replacement and it's doesn't compare to the Half Mass. Sure the water proofing is good idea, but there isn't a water bottle pocket on the outside. The waist strap is gone which is key when carrying heavier loads or on a bike/scooter. Patagonia have taken away some of the pockets from the inside which were nice features. The strap is sowed on oddly so that it bunches up in the D ring. I have traveled all over the world with my Half Mass it was awesome! Please bring back the features of the old bag!!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect size Great bag - lots of space for every day commutes and or for short trips. The shoulder strap works well if slung over the shoulder messenger bag style but scrunches up if over one shoulder which is not ideal. Hard wearing and fine for a rain shower.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from What happened to the old features My old Patagonia Messenger, which I used daily for bike commuting, was (besides the fabric) a much better bag all-around than the current version. Commuters need the cross body strap, and this bag, for some reason seems to be lacking what its older relatives had in that department. There are fewer pockets, fewer pen holders, zipper pockets, etc., than the previous versions. Most of all, I miss the side pocket, which was great for holding my Hydro Flask of coffee every morning. Patagonia seems to be making bags now not designed for their core, but instead for people who want to be trendy and just walk around with a bag with a label on it. It's unfortunate. Please bring back the side pocket and the cross body strap Patagonia, and when you do, send me a new bag.
