Harbingers of a day well-spent: a frozen-solid pond, fast skates and the Boys' Hi-Loft Down Sweater Hoody. Lightweight, exceptionally warm and compressible, it has a 1.6-oz 30-denier polyester mini-ripstop shell with a DWR (durable water repellent) finish to resist light rain and snow; lining fabric is polyester plain weave. The quilted-through Traceable Down (600-fill-power duck down traced from parent farm to apparel factory to help ensure the birds that supply it are not force-fed or live-plucked) maintains warmth and stays put even after relentless use and washings. Cold-weather essentials include a quilted 3-panel hood, full-length zipper with wind flap backing, two zippered handwarmer pockets with reflective webbing pulls, adjustable drawcord at hem and spandex binding on hood and cuffs to seal out drafts. Internal zippered chest pocket doubles as stuffsack.

Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Traceable Down Insulation

All Patagonia virgin down is certified to the Advanced Global Traceable Down standard by NSF International. The Advanced certification level means our down suppliers conducted audits all the way back to the parent farms to ensure there was no live-plucking and that broader humane animal welfare standards were faithfully observed throughout the supply chain.
