Lightweight, exceptionally warm and compressible, it has a 1.4-oz 20-denier polyester mini-ripstop shell with a DWR (durable water repellent) finish to stop wind, rain and snow. Lining fabric is polyester plain weave. The quilted-through Traceable Down (600-fill-power duck down traced from parent farm to apparel factory to help ensure the birds that supply it are not force-fed or live-plucked) hoards warmth and stays put while in use. Cold-weather essentials include a quilted 3-panel hood, full-length zipper with wind-flap backing, two zippered handwarmer pockets with reflective webbing pulls, adjustable drawcord at hem and spandex binding on hood and cuffs to seal out drafts. bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Traceable Down Insulation

Patagonia Traceable Down provides the highest assurance of animal welfare in the apparel industry. Every down cluster, in every one of our down products, comes exclusively from birds that were never force-fed and never live-plucked. How do we know? We hired an independent third-party expert to trace and verify our down supply chain from farm to jacket–and every step in between. Learn more

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love! This coat has been perfect for winter. Super warm and very cute on. We went up a size and it still fit great but gave a little extra room to grow.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Yet ANOTHER great down jacket Yes, I have purchased another jacket. I justify this purchase because where i live is cold most of the time. I can wear a down jacket 8 months of the year. Anyway, I can fit into girls large clothing because I am 5'2" and 100 pounds. I bought this jacket to complete my rainbow spectrum of down jackets. The large fits me perfectly. It hits just below my waist, high hip area. I purchased the jacket in an underwater blue which is a dark teal color. The material is shiny but doesn't look like a trash bag. It is very elegant. This is a very substantial jacket, not flimsy at all. I purchased the jacket on sale from the Salt Lake City Outlet from Paul, who I think is the manager. What a friendly and helpful man!!!! 5 stars to you Paul! Will make other purchases as well. Thank you Patagonia. Love, Piglet

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great winter coat Great winter coat for NYC day to day activities of a 6 yr old: walking a few blocks to school, riding subway or taking the bus, outdoor ice skating; and for winter vacation in Denver, including using it as a ski jacket in the Rocky Mtns

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent coat for daughter I was concerned about a previous reviewer's comments about the leaky fabric of this jacket, but decided to take a chance on it because it looked like the best down jacket option with a hood. For Chicago's extremely cold winters, I find that down is the warmest and best material for winter jackets. I am very happy with this jacket and so far I have no issues with feathers leaking out of the fabric - nothing beyond the occasional stray feather or two from normal wear. My daughter is very warm and because it is so lightweight, it is easy for her to slip on without struggling and tugging. I am finding that one of the best features (aside from the warmth) is the stretchy elastic on the sleeves and the hood, and the way the hood is designed in general. Previous winter coats from other brands that we have tried have elastic on the sleeve cuffs that did keep out the cold, but were so stiff and thick that is was hard to tuck mittens under the cuff, or made it hard to push the sleeve up the wrist to wash hands, etc. This jacket's elastic is very stretchy without being stiff, yet firm enough to keep out the cold. As far as the hood, I was not expecting it to fit my daughter's head well - usually with previous coats, there would always be a gap or bubble at the top of the hood that would make it necessary to wear a hat underneath the hood. This hood is designed so well that it is a perfect snug fit with that great stretchy elastic along the edge. The hood curves in towards her head and neck and hugs her ears just right. I find myself skipping putting on a hat and scarf on my daughter most of the time, though a hat slips under the hood fine if needed. I do have one criticism - the zipper pockets are a bit hard to slip hands into - the opening is a little narrow. But to me, it is a minor thing. Overall, this jacket is designed to fit so well and so easily. The colors are great, the water resistant fabric has a nice sheen to it, and on top of everything else, it just looks beautiful. I also love that it should fit my daughter for 2 winters. Thank you, Patagonia, for putting so much thought into your jacket designs.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice jacket but leaky fabric. This hoody jacket is cute but for the few weeks that it has been worn, down feathers have been popping out. I have an envelope full of down. An employee at a Patagonia store did not think it was an issue but said it could be returned. I may do so if the issue continues.
