Sometimes you have to shed the gnar before you send the gnar. The Alpine Houdini® Pants deliver featherweight, emergency storm protection that you can pull on in a flash anytime you’re climbing somewhere wet enough to soak your femurs. The 2.5-layer ripstop nylon H2No® Performance Standard waterproof/breathable shell, with DWR (durable water repellent) finish, has stretchy and durable reinforcements in the seat and cuffs. The pants pull on with an elasticized waistband and have an internal drawcord, and the tapered lower leg has elasticized cuffs with 2-position adjustable snap tabs. The pants self-stuff into the watertight-zippered exterior right-thigh pocket (with carabiner clip-in loop).

bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Water Resistant

DWR (durable water repellent) fabric finish repels light rain and snow and decreases dry times. When DWR is used in conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great if you don't stress them I both these in september of 2016. this review is early Dec 2016. I wore these pants 5-7 times on 7-10 mile hikes and a barrier to wind and rain. The crotch began to stress after 3 uses and tore open after 5-7 uses. Patagonia has an awesome return/repair policy and I am currently using it for these pants. I hope I just got a defective pair that were weak in a critical wear point. Otherwise, they did work as advertised and kept rain and wind out. I may not rely so heavily on them once I get the repaired/replaced item. I may update this review to a higher one if I can get more wear and tear out of the next pair.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lightweght and waterproof enough for heavy rain Who wants to carry heavy rain pants on sunny days or use rain pants that leak on rainy days? So super light rain pants are great for the sunny days but always a gamble for the rainy days. In this case ghe gamble paid off. I've worn them traverse hiking through two wet storm cycles and stayed completely dry inside. also i never wetted them out from sweating on the inside. The DWR doesn't seem as effective as my rain jacked although it wasn't bad enoug that i sweated out the inside. Plus i got some seam tape and made them into knickers so my gaitors only had one layer over my lower legs. Someday someone will make rain knickers to go with gaitors but for now these modified quite well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked great for winter camping The houdini jacket worked so well, I thought I would go with the houdini pants too. I almost like the houdini pants more than the houdini jacket! It offers the water proofness expected of rain pants without the weight which is a rarity among most rain paints.
