Versatile enough to wear alone or under layers, it keeps you dry and comfortable during high-exertion activities in cool-to-cold weather. Constructed with a Polartec® Power Grid™ fabric, Capilene® Midweight has a smooth face for easy layering and a brushed-back grid that aids in wicking as well as warmth. Odor Resistant

Polygiene® odor control permanently protects your garments from smelling like a middle school locker room. Sweat itself is odorless, but it creates the conditions that bacteria need to multiply, and some of those bacteria produce odors. Polygiene permanent odor control stops the growth of odor-causing bacteria on fabrics, so you can wear more and wash less.

Active only on the fabric surface, Polygiene permanent odor control does not interfere with perspiration or with the skin’s natural bacterial flora. Polygiene particles are more than 100 times larger than nanoparticles and therefore are too large to penetrate to the skin’s barrier. Polygiene-treated fabrics have received Medical Class 1 approval in Europe, the same class that includes bandages.

Capilene® Polyester Baselayer

Made from moisture-wicking polyester, Capilene® synthetic baselayers wick moisture away from your skin, breathe efficiently and dry fast to provide the foundation for any layering system for any pursuit. Designed for fast-forward, aerobic activities, they’re quick to wick and quick to dry. Capilene polyester is made from recycled polyester (30% recycled content or more) and is also machine washable.

We make four Capilene fabrics for different levels of exertion and temperatures. All Capilene fabrics have achieved bluesign® approval; have an updated and consistent fit in each fabric weight; and use Polygiene® technology to control odor in the garment. They are the best baselayer option for high-sweat activities and wet conditions.

Men's Capilene® Midweight Zip-Neck is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pricey but well worth it Sometimes you can't afford to save money. I've always found - over many years - that Patagonia clothing is top notch. Smooth, comfortable, chain stitched or taped inner seams, last forever YKK zipper that is long for superior temperature regulation, quilt-like interior surface to retain heat yet breath well, smooth exterior finish that top layers (and your sleeping bag) slide over, superior fabrics for warmth, moisture control and anti-odor, labor and environment conscientious suppliers, effective recycling of fabrics, excellent warranty and on and on. I just literally lived in two of these for 4 months in a tiny truck camper; one on, one in the hand wash (dries very quickly). Brava! Bravo!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Keeps you drier I've been using the newest Midweight Capilene up in the interior of eastern Alaska for the past few months. Coldest day out so far was -53 below zero. Many days out around -30 and -40. I've tried most of the high end merino wool baselayers in the same temperatures. My assessment is that Capilene drys faster than anything else. In extreme cold staying dry is one of the keys to survival. One way I've compared different baselayers sounds kinda gross. But I often return really sweaty from cross country skiing. I'll shed my outer layers and wear the baselayer alone for a while to see how fast it dries. Capilene often feels dry even when my Nano Air is completely soaked from condensation inside my shell. That means two things: 1) I need a more breathable shell, and 2) the Capilene does an amazing job at keeping you dry. That what is it all about.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What I expect from Patagonia While I get that on rare occasion, a missed stitch or flaw will show up, although this has never been my experience with any Patagonia product since the 1980's. I'm not sure what the other review expected. It is a mid-weight base layer and is may not feel as silky smooth as a daily wear, but it does not bother my skin nor feel itchy. Wearing it now, sitting by the fire and enjoying the warmth!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not as good as pre 2015 versions The mid weight Capilene Zip T has been my standard go to for fall, winter, spring running, skiing, kayaking since the early 90s. In 2015 they changed the fabric to a micro grid type polyester. I bought two of them. They were not as warm or comfortable as the previous versions. I have tried really hard to find conditions in which they will work - it is two years later and now they sit in my closet, while I still use the older, softer, more comfortable, more functional older cap mid weights. The idea of the grid fabric makes sense - trapping air next to skin for warmth - but it just does not work in real use. The fabric feels plastic like, not comfortable next to ski. The more plush grid fabric used in the R1 works great, but this slimmer micro grid next to skin just does not work. I would strongly encourage Patagonia designers to phase out this fabric.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Eh I got this on a pretty good sale and I am still disappointed. First off, the stitching down the sleeves is itchy. More importantly - this in black showed sweat marks after a single day of use. Pretty much gross and cant wear around town. Even after getting it on sale I still think I overpaid.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from whispy fabric, not durable I got this product, used it for 4 days, and it already shows bad pilling where it contacted my backpack. I got this product based on advice given by one of Patagonia's reps when asking them for a layer similar in durability to the cap daily. this is not it. I can't see it lasting more than a few trips.
