bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

UPF Fabric

Lacking fur, feathers or scales, we humans have to think up clever ways to protect ourselves from the sun. Products with the UPF designation provide built-in sun protection that won’t wear off.

To achieve sun protection, Patagonia takes a varied approach, depending on the degree of protection desired and the fabric used. Elements of the strategy can range from yarn selection to fabric construction to the use of special finishes (especially for light colors which generally provide less protection).

Men's El Ray Shirt is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable and the snaps are a cool feature I like the shirt. Its fits well (I am 6'1" and slim), the material is wrinkle free so the El Rey packs well, no need to iron, etc. And the snaps are a cool design feature.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Practically bullet proof I have 3 of these shirts that I have acquired over the last 6+ years, and they are all so durable that I honestly can't tell which one is oldest. They are a go to travel shirt because I don't have to worry about a random laundry service ruining them. I have worn this shirt from Alaska to Hawaii to Europe and Africa, and this shirt was always up for the job. I don't think there is a single rip, snag or fray. The only thing I don't love about this shirt is the fit. I am 6'3 170lbs, and the Large is the right length, but it is baggier than I like. As I am fairly lean, I prefer the more fitted sizing of the Bandito. I wish I could give this shirt 4.5 stars. It really is a very solid shirt for all occasions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy Living Took this travelling with me and it's my backup shirt if it gets chilly for just a tshirt or I am inside a air conditioned movie theater or meeting up with friends for a drink.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Summer shirt! Here in the southeast - it gets hot and humid. The material is light and comfortable. Great fit- not a claim fit- but I am tall and thin and the fit is great for me. Stayed cool in this shirt standing on black asphalt for an afternoon! Highly recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this shirt Double chest pockets, snap buttons, lightweight, sharp looking - the only thing missing is more color/patterns. I wear a Medium in everything else Patagonia, and ordered both a M and an L based on reviews - sent the L back. I think the M fits perfect.....5'10' 155 fwiw.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A darn great shirt! I bought this shirt at the Atlanta Patagonia store and I can't say enough great things about it. The fit is perfect. I am 5'8", 37.5" chest, 155lbs, normal build, and the shirt fits perfect for pretty much anything I do. Hiking, commuting to work by bike, nice casual wear, this shirt does it all. ***Patagonia: make more shirts fit like this and I will buy them.*** Also, the breast pockets are great with the little hole for your pen - a thoughtful addition. Like all of Patagonia's clothing I am going to assume it's going to hold up over time.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Almost a great shirt i bought this shirt impulsively when I spotted it in my local fly shop. The shirt has a great look and nice feel but I am a classic Patagonia Medium and this shirt is borderline too snug. The shirt tail is nice but could be a tad bit longer but much nicer than a box tail that looks like an old geezer barber shirt. Too bad nobody at Patagonia cared about the collar. Did anybody bother to try on or wear the shirt? The collar just flies away because there is no snap, button or velcro. Do something about the collar and this could be a great shirt. If it was a dress shirt it could use a collar stay but should I have to put a collar stay in an El Ray to prevent the collar from looking ridiculous?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fit is snug I'm between a large and xl with patagonia clothes- usually i need an xl in slim fit and l in regular. I ordered the xl after hearing this ran small and it was still a bit snug. I would recommend sizing up from your usual size. No quality issues for me, and its a pretty comfortable shirt.
