Everything we love about the Guidewater Pants—and less. The shorts version has all the same water-specific features—including a zippered side-leg pocket, mesh drainage on all pockets and a remarkably fast dry-time—that make these the fishing shorts of choice for anglers. And the comfortable fit, zip fly and motion-friendly waist with stretch sections and belt loops make the Guidewater Shorts ideal for pretty much any activity. Which is to say, you may find yourself wearing ’em everywhere—we sure do. Made from lightweight, 3.9-oz woven nylon with a DWR (durable water repellent) finish and 50+ UPF sun protection. Inseam is 10".

bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Water Resistant

DWR
(durable water repellent) fabric finish repels light rain and snow and decreases dry times. When DWR is used in conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

Men's Guidewater Ii Shorts is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 38.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Never look wrinkled and fit perfect They just look great every time I put them on - even between washings. There is also a polished look to them that adds a bit of class.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Favorite wet wading short I've bought numerous pairs of these shorts over the years and I truly love them. Durable and the elastic tabs on the sides make belt wearing a non-necessity.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Once again, Patagonia scrimps on "updated" model Shorts are still great, but I take issue with their decision to change the zipper pulls from robust fabric to a cheap string. I think this occurred between 2013 and 2015. Not only is the zipper pull harder to pull from the string, it just feels and looks cheap with far less quality. Also, when a company saves money by using materials of lesser quality, I'd expect to see a price reduction. If Patagonia keeps doing these kinds of changes, I'll be done with the brand. Look at the reviews for the "new" Tech Web Belt for another good example of cutting corners on quality.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great shorts for warm weather activities The Guidewater II shorts are lightweight and versatile. Lots of pockets for all your goodies. Only drawback is that my iPhone 6 does not fit in the side or back pocket. Otherwise great shorts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best ever These are the best shorts ever. I peddle real estate all day in them in the south Florida summer and fly fish em in the evening. They are Super light weight and quick to dry. I'm 6'3" 250lb and have plenty of room in the 2xl. I have to belt em to keep em up but I get so much extra room to do activities.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Fishing Shorts, But... I purchased a pair of these shorts and the pant version last year [2014]. Pants and shorts are great for fishing. The fabric is rugged and quick drying. The elastic waist makes them very comfortable to wear. The pocket placements are very functional. I have a couple beefs about the new version. The zipper pulls on the side and back pockets of '15 version are so lame compared to the '14 version. Try finding the tiny zipper pulls quickly with a fly rod in one hand or in the dark. The change from embroidered Patagonia logo to a simple woven label is kind of cheap. Also, the lanyard loop in the side pocket of the '14 version was a handy place to attach a remote control for a GoPro. The new version is nice but not as good as the '14 version.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from In and Out of the Water in Maine Great for swimming, comfortable, quick drying and more versatile than a swim suit. Swim, hike, drive to town, out to dinner. I want another pair!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Seems nice, but oversized These shorts seem well made and the fabric feels good, but I don't know by experience. They arrived today, and are going back tomorrow. I ordered an XL, as my waist size is 38. I'm 5'10" and weigh 220 (yes, I am chunky). These shorts were way too big for me, both in length, waist and thigh. I'm an ex skier and hockey player, and I've never had a problem with too much room in the thigh. For a 38 inch waist and about 5'10" height, I would suggest a large, unless you're a rapper. I am re-ordering a large today, and will revert with a more informational review soon
