The quintessential favorite for early-season routes in the Cascades, Tetons and Winds. A heavyweight of versatility, our Merino Midweight is a wonderfully soft jersey knit suited to a wide variety of activities across a wide range of conditions. Merino wool is naturally breathable, regulates body temperature and stretches. It's also wonderfully soft and naturally resists odor. Ours is sourced from the grasslands of Patagonia. We slow-wash it for softness and shrink resistance, without the use of chlorine, then blend it with 18% Capilene® recycled polyester for durability and for dry times and moisture transfer superior to that of 100% merino. Features include a brushed elastic waistband for next-to-skin softness, a gusseted crotch for mobility, a functional fly, and low-bulk merrow seams and offset inseams minimize chafing. Machine wash cold; machine dry at low temperatures.

bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Balance of loose and under layer I really like that I have longjohns that are not compression pants they keep me warm but they don't crimp my leg hairs all day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good fir I bought this to replace the old MW poly that I owned for years (Patagonia brand). Very pleased!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Waistband fit Size 32" waist, have used these leggings 3 times this season. Have had to adjust the leggings multiple times over the course of each day as they sagged considerably (7-8"). Wish the elastic on the waistband were stronger. That being said, the warmth and fit on the lower to middle legs is very good.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Comfortable, well made, but not slim fit I wear these over underwear and under shorts for cold weather running. They're MUCH more comfortable than my other longjohns (a pair of Icebreakers), but they're also a lot more loose. The fit at the waistband is fine, but they're slightly roomy in the thighs and looser still at the calves and ankles. If the sizing was better, these would be my go-to long underwear, but as it is, they're #2.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for January game at Lambeau! My first Patagonia merino product was perfect in its first use for a cold weather game at Lambeau. I am gradually replacing older capilene items with wool gear and this purchase will keep me headed in that direction (though capilene is still a great product)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Freaking awesome! I bought theses merino bottoms with big dreams of wearing them this fall and winter on my outdoor escapades, but decided to try them out early while camping in the San Juans. These bottoms are freaking awesome! They kept me warm without making me too hot, and didn't feel itchy like other bottoms I have tried in the past. The tagless waistband is also super comfortable. I really like the stripe pattern on wife was actually a tad jealous and wanted them for herself. I look forward to taking these along on all my other outdoor adventures. Well done Patagonia!
