Organic Cotton

In 1996, with an increased awareness of the dangers of pesticide use and synthetic fertilizers in growing conventional cotton, we began the exclusive use of organically grown cotton in all of our cotton products.

The quality of organic cotton is equal to or better than conventionally grown cotton, yet organically grown methods support biodiversity and healthy ecosystems, improve the quality of soil and often use less water. Growing organically takes more time, requires more knowledge and skill, and, for now, costs more. But it’s worth it.

To ensure we are buying cotton that is organic as defined by the USDA’s National Organic Program, we require numerous certificates issued by an accredited third-party certification body for every step of the supply chain, from farm to factories.

Fair Trade Certified™

We pay a premium for every Fair Trade Certified item that carries our label. That extra money goes directly to the workers at the factory, and they decide how to spend it. The program also promotes worker health and safety and social and environmental compliance, and encourages dialog between workers and management.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brothers are fighting over this sweatshirt I bought this sweatshirt in gray for my 14 year old son. His 17 year old brother has decided they need to have a schedule for sharing and wearing the sweatshirt. My boys have never fought over clothing in their lives! Is it comfortable? Of course- it's a sweatshirt. Is it quality? Duh- it's Patagonia. Is it possessing a cool factor? Apparently so! Guess I need to get another one in a different color...

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great Except For The Shoulder Pad Effect Man, I really wanted to love this. I’ve been wanting a plain, solid color, no-graphics classic sweatshirt from Patagonia. And this was almost it. I’m not sure if it’s the material, the cut of the armhole, the placement of the seam right at the shoulder, the sewing, or a combination of all of them, but there’s a poofy, shoulder pad look, especially pronounced when you raise your arms (think 1980’s women’s shoulder pads). Also, the way the seams were sewn look puffy on mine, not flat as in the photos on the website. I have an older Hooded Monk sweatshirt on which the arm and shoulder seams are flatlock (I think that’s the term), like on the current poly hoodies; perhaps this would help, because that sweatshirt is awesome – it's comfy, and the shoulders lay flat, even when you raise your arms. On none of the current cotton sweatshirts or hoodys, I don't think, are the seams flatlock (A money-saving quality cutback? A part of Fair Trade sewing?). I would suggest perhaps bringing back flatlock seams and/or extending the torso/arm joint further down the arm like a classic sweatshirt (or looking at some cuts of those old Hooded Monks) or making a raglan sleeve version of this exact sweatshirt (or better yet offer both). Same goes for the cotton hoody. I hope the idea of a no-graphics, solid color sweatshirt (and hoody) sticks around and becomes a staple of Patagonia, because with some tweaks, it, and the cotton hoody, would be staples in my wardrobe.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable Casual Wear I have purchased many Patagonia Products through the years and while they all hold a place in my heart this pullover has to take the cake. It is made out of a comfortable breathable material which makes this pullover transitionable to almost whatever you are doing. While this is obviously not for the winter time in Chicago, it is a wonderful casual wear piece of clothing that I cannot recommend enough. Fits true to size if anything just a smidgen small.
