The classic R1® Full-Zip Jacket is a versatile midlayer for days on the mountain and everything in between—a light and breathable fleece made from Polartec® Power Grid™ with outstanding stretch and durability with Polygiene® permanent odor control.

Read More Close
After countless desperate pitches, scores of alpine summits and miles upon miles of backcountry scrambling, our R1® fabric has compiled a worthy résumé. It stretches, breathes, wicks and warms with ultimate efficiency, and the full-zip iteration offers added versatility. The finely tuned high/low interior grid polyester (Polartec® Power Grid™), recently redesigned to be even lighter and more breathable, is exclusive to Patagonia. With its technical fit and durable fabric, it squashes down to practically nothing in your pack. With simple cuffs, minimalist zippers to reduce bulk and a soft, kissing-welt zipper garage at the chin for next-to-skin comfort. Two zippered handwarmer pockets sit above the harness line, with their mesh pocket bags doubling as internal drop-in pockets, and the offset shoulder seams steer clear of pack straps. Polygiene® permanent odor control ensures civilized tent time.

bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for cold runs I bought this for the Glacier Half Marathon and it kept me comfy the whole time! Very breathable and light but just warm enough.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from men's R-1 jacket Works great the Spring weather in Florida. Though pockets to store my stuff when running.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Fits well, slim in the body and long arms I bought this jacket about a month ago to wear at work where it tends to run cold. I really like the fit, I am slender and tall and the small fits great with ample arm length, not always the case with other brands. I am however dissapointed that after a single week of wearing the jacket there is already pilling on the sleeves.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great at first Hi Folks, So when I bought this a month ago it was great as it met my expectations of a high quality zip jacket. Patagonia is known for high quality (I therefore find the prices to be ok and fair as you know what you get) and the jacket fit just perfect as I bought it in Small. I have bought a number of products from Patagonia and have never had an issue however when I washed this items (I made sure to follow the instructions as stated on the tag) it shrunk and is now way to tight to wear....That is a real shame as I liked the zip jacket....Is there anything we can do in this case?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My second R1 I have had an R1 pullover, and I love it. Very warm, breathable, light and thin. So I bought the full-zip jacket. It's equally good, plus easy to putting on and off, as an outwear jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Versatile and Durable I bought this jacket 3 years ago and it is great! It is my go-to as a base layer for ski trips, windy days on the water fly fishing, and general everyday use. It is warm, breathable and has held up great over 3 years of constant use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This will keep you warm I bought this for my recent trip to Vail, and I was a little skeptical since it is not the most bulky of fleeces that I have owned, but after wearing it on the slopes, it is certainly one of the warmest. Worth the price

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great jacket/sweater replacement. I've had the R1 jacket for a few months and I wear it multiple days a week. My 6'7" height and relatively skinny frame makes it hard to find jackets with long enough arms and athletic fit, but this jacket is just the right size (though I would have preferred another inch of arm length). It's a perfect weight as a 2nd layer on cold ski days, but also great as a sweater replacement around town and at work.
