It’s been slept in and on, squeezed up a chimney, buried under layers at the bivy, and thrown over your head when you want to disappear after falling off the crux move—again. It’s the amazing, versatile R3® Hoody. Worn alone or under a shell, our Men’s R3® Hoody warms like a wood-burning stove. Compressible and resilient, this reversible Regulator® fleece hoody is made of an exclusive Polartec® High Loft™ polyester fleece that wicks moisture, dries quickly and caches heat when temperatures plunge. Worn pile side out, it has two handwarmer pockets and an external zippered chest pocket; worn smooth side out, it has two zippered chest pockets. The clean-finished R1® cuffs use spiral-seam construction, so they’re easy to push up; and elastic binding at the snug-fitting hood, hem and handwarmer pockets further seals in warmth. Sonic/Stitch seam construction reduces bulk on the center-front zipper; a soft, kissing-welt center-front zipper garage is easy on the chin; offset shoulder seams stay clear of pack straps.
  • Exclusive to Patagonia, this Polartec® High Loft™ fleece provides exceptional warmth, dries quickly and has breathability appropriate for use as an outer layer or midlayer
  • Snug-fitting hood with elastic binding locks in heat; underarm gussets and raglan sleeves for increased mobility and comfort under a pack
  • Reversible style has removable tags and reversible center-front zipper with soft kissing-welt zipper garage at chin for next-to-skin comfort
  • Pile side out: single zippered chest pocket and hoody-style handwarmer pockets with elastic binding. Smooth side out: two glued-on, zippered chest pockets
  • Center-front zipper has Sonic/Stitch seam construction to reduce bulk and improve suppleness
  • Clean-finished cuffs use R1® Polartec® Power Grid™ fabric in a spiral-seam construction
  • Elastic binding at hem, hood and handwarmer pockets seals in warmth
  • Body: 8.9-oz Polartec® High Loft™ 97% polyester (53% recycled)/3% spandex. Cuffs: 6.9-oz Polartec Power Grid™ 93% recycled polyester/7% spandex. Pockets: 3.4-oz 100% nylon woven. Body and cuff fabrics are bluesign® approved

bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Men's R3® Hoody is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 52.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Sheds like a dog in spring. I hang dry all my clothing as I don't own a drier but recommend running the R3 thru the drier as it has shed fleece like a dog in spring. The R1 has about the same weight and did not have this issue. Get the R1 not the R3.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from For use in all conditions I bought this fleece a month ago and have used it constantly since. I live in Vermont and spring can have a variety of weather. Went to hike camel's hump with this and saw all variety of conditions that day along with this lightweight yet warm layer available. I did have a breathable shell when freezing rain at the summit rolled in but the was plenty otherwise. I am 5'10'' and have a medium and it fits very nicely.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm I bought this a few weeks ago and I love it! My only complaints are the zipper garage style is not my favorite and there should be thumb holes in the sleeve like the rest of the R series.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sizing I love Patagonia and all the great gear they make! However, this piece I was in between a Medium and Large. The jacket is amazing, but didn't fit me properly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fluffy cloud ninja! I bought this because I hate being cold. I wore it snowboarding one day but didn't really take it off for the next week. The temperature regulation is phenomenal. Changing it to fuzzy side in really does make it warmer. The ninja hood being form fitting looks ridiculous but it's so comfy that I don't care. Especially fitting under a climbing or snowboarding helmet in suoer cold days. The zipper being on the front, as has been complained about in other reviews, is not an inconvenience at all. I'm 5'7 and weigh 150 pounds. The small is perfect with a base layer under it and fits under my small down hoody perfectly. Super comfy for traveling too. Doesn't smell after a weekend of sweat either.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Fuzzy Wuzzy I bought this as a mid-layer in cool weather. I love its feel, look, reversibility and features. Only thing is, it sheds bits of fiber onto nylon items, including my hiking pants, web belt and others. I thought washing it would cure the shedding. Nope! So I can't wear it with my hiking gear. But I do like it, so will keep it as a city jacket to wear around town with Levis's and other cotton clothing. Too bad. I really wanted it to work on the trail.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love it every time I wear it! I love it every time I wear it! I do highly recommend this product. Thank you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Toasty and Tough I wanted a "go to" hoodie for everything: walking the dog, bike commuting, back packing, going to the bar. This thing is awesome. It is toasty, but I would rather be a little toasty and have the full range--dipping as low as 30 degrees. It layers well and it fits comfortably under a soft shell. At first, I was trying not ruin it. But now I'm shoving it in the bottom of my bag, tying it around my waste and leaving it on the floor. It's fine.
