We stand behind everything we make, including our wetsuits. But wetsuits require care if they are going to perform and wear the way they were intended. Patagonia is not responsible for wetsuits that are abused or show normal wear and tear over time. Scratches and fading are inevitable, as are tears from the occasional close call with a fin. Our neoprene-free Yulex® wetsuits are made of 85% natural rubber/15% synthetic rubber by polymer content. Replacing a petroleum-based material with a plant-based one, they offer the same warmth and performance attributes as conventional stretch neoprene while reducing CO2 emissions by up to ~80% in the manufacturing process. Derived from sources that are Forest Stewardship Council® certified by the Rainforest Alliance, we blend the natural rubber with chlorine-free synthetic rubber to increase ozone and UV resistance, and meet our rigorous standards for strength, stretch and durability. With an anatomical, performance-focused design that maximizes comfort and flexibility while minimizing weight, the R3® Yulex Front-Zip Hooded Full Suit is 4.5mm in the torso and thighs (hood: 3mm), lined with high-stretch, fast-drying 51% recycled polyester/44% polyester/5% spandex inverted microgrid; 3.5mm in the arms and legs, lined with high-stretch, fast-drying 100% recycled polyester jersey; the face fabric is 85% recycled polyester/15% spandex. The floating front-zip features a corrosion-proof zipper and asymmetrical flap for better seal, stretch and range of motion through the chest and shoulders; the Salmi® zipper is fully replaceable to extend the suit’s lifespan. Supratex kneepads and ankle cuffs provide excellent abrasion resistance and increased durability. 100% external seam sealing; all seams are triple glued, blindstitched and internally taped. Adjustable hood opening has cord lock for custom fit. Easy-access key loop included. Suggested water temperatures: 48–55° F/9–13° C.

Men's R3 Yulex Fz Hooded Full Suit is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this wetsuit I love this wetsuit. I bought it before reading all the reviews, and I kinda freaked out by everyone saying that it was difficult to remove, but I've surfed with it a bunch and I think it's a great wetsuit. Here's the thing about getting it off: You just need to follow the right steps. First you pull the top over your head (obviously). Then it's important to take your left arm out first - the front zipper is angled, so it's easier to get one side out first. To get my arm out, I pull a little on the far end, hold it from the inside with my left hand, then pull a little more and hold, then pull a little more and hold, etc. It takes a minute, but it works just fine. This wetsuit is comfortable and has the perfect warmth for Ocean Beach / Pacifica - I can surf for hours without getting cold. I'd recommend this to a friend. I'm 6'2" and 166 lbs, and a MT fits me perfectly.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I can't get out! Had an older hooded R3, size xlt. Plenty warm, a touch loose in the chest but fit better than most other suits I've had. Was excited for the new yulex suit, but apparently xlt is no longer an option. Sales tells me I'm definitely a LT based on my 6'4", 185lb size. Well, after 6 sessions there's no way I can keep wearing this suit. It's a nightmare to get off, and feels way to tight in general. Also way too short in the legs. Looks like no more Patagonia for me.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Help I'm Stuck Unfortunately the other reviews are true. This thing is ROUGH geting out of. Perhaps the material needs more of a break in period, but after just 1 at home try-on (size M, I am 5'11" 160lbs) I knew that, sadly, this was not my new eco-friendly wetsuit. The first issue is the collar that you have to step through - super tight. was hard to even get over my knees and hips. Pulling the suit up fully was quite the chore. Once on the suit felt great. Warm and comfortable and the hood was nice. When the hood is pulled down you have a nice cozy turtleneck. Getting this guy off was next to impossible and I am so glad I was in the privacy of my own home in my attempts. I'm also glad that I had my girlfriend there to help tug. Previous reviewers nailed it about the right shoulder. The chest zip design combined with the hood make that zone extremely restricted. There is just not enough play whatsoever, and yes, if I could safely dislocate my own shoulder, it would have really helped to get this suit off. I couldn't imagine attempting a wet, solo, change out in a cold parking lot, so I did not take my trial further and surf with this suit. This review is for a dry suit only. I will say that the quality of the Yulex felt less than I was expecting, but I am used to wearing buttery japanese limestone geoprene. The trade off of being 100% petroleum free, however, is totally worth it, and this is only version 1. I cannot speak to how it breaks in after repeated use. The lining felt nice and warm and I appreciate the recycled materials. I do feel Patagonia could have chosen better colors. The green is ugly, but who cares, its a wetsuit lining. I chose this model because I wanted the full package with hood for cold SF surf. I figured if i was going to shell out the bucks for a Patagonia I should go all the way. It seems, however, that the hood & chestzip is the design flaw of these suits. A buddy of mine got the R3 back zip versions and has 0 complaints, totally loves the suit. So in closing, my review is to maybe size up a bit, or ditch the hood and go for the back-zip version

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Suit is warm and flexible but i can't get it off I have used the suit 5 times, it is well made, warm enough for me on the east coat of uk, water temp 10 Celsius. Problem I have is that I cannot get the suit off without help which is terrible if you surf alone or try to grab a sneaky lunch time session from work. I have contacted patagonia to see if there is a secret technique to getting out of this suit

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved the old one, so far BIG FAN of the new one I'm 6'2 200 pounds. Got the LT. Fits great. I had the "old" (non yulex) R3 hoodless and loved it. Far warmer, and far more durable than other 4/3 wetsuits I've owned. I love Patagonia for the durability - my old Patagonia lasted me 18months of 2-4x week... approx. 2x as long as other wetsuits used to last. I am 4 sessions into my new Yulex - early days but not a lot of reviews up here yet so thought I'd post my early read in case helpful to others. So far a big fan. LT fits me great same as old one so go with the same size. New material feels both lighter, a bit thinner, and stretchier to me, but without any give up in warmth. Inside dries almost completely overnight, feels comparable to maybe a bit faster than the old one. Hood feels great. I surf OB and def nice to have when I'm battling to get outside... otherwise surfing with it off doesn't get in the way and neck feels nice and warm. I'd agree with one other reviewer that it's a bear to get off the right shoulder... I've noticed that it's getting a bit easier each time - in my experience with other hooded suits it can take a little while... till then surf with a buddy who can give you a yank! I'll report back as I continue to use it and post if the shoulder suit exit issue goes away. Only gripe so far: as with my old one, no key pocket. Key loop on chest is dumb... super uncomfortable - I just shove my key up the sleeve and the cuffs hold it in tight.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Impossible to take off without bodily harm This is the first Patagonia product I have ever returned due to poor design. After 5 sessions in this new wetsuit I've determined that the new zipper design renders the suit almost impossible to remove without assistance. I almost blew out both my shoulders and wrists a few days ago trying to remove it . The issue is that the new zipper is set on a diagonal...which means that you do not have the option of removing either shoulder first. Only one will come out and if you aren't flexible enough to get the suit rolled off the one shoulder, then good luck to you. Moreover the new hood attachment is such that it impossible to reach the hood for a potential assist. I am returning this suit and have ordered an R3 back zip and a removable hood. I've owned frontzip wetsuits before.....including a 2012 R3 that has 600+ sessions on it...that one has an horizontal zipper. These are great suits. I know also that they need time to break in. But I may end my surfing career if I use this new one for much longer. PS: I am skinny....6'0" 160 lbs.and I've been surfing for 40 years. I should be able to wiggle out of this wetsuit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Yes, this—thank you! I bought this suit entirely on the promise of a lowered carbon footprint for playing in the surf. I had run my previous wetsuits into the ground, never able to fully justify getting a new suit when it was needed, largely because of the guilt of knowing how dirty neoprene is to the ocean compared to how frivolous my use of it would be. So when these new bio-rubber suits launched, I snatched one up right away to put money into this clean 'prene movement. Lifting that burden was already worth it to me. But after that, this suit is easily the best thought-out suit I've owned, and one of the most comfortable. The material is soft and supple, the inner lining adds a lot of warmth (though the whole polyester micro-shedding thing is a bummer), and the ankle cuffs are the best for easy on and off. The suit has had minimal flushing in body-surfing/big bail situations, and feels simply posh compared to the suits I've owned in the past. Time will tell how much this holds up, since new suits are always a bit warmer and better in-every-way when you first get them. So far though, the performance is stellar and on-par with any traditional neoprene I've used. Thank you Patagonia for this breakthrough in cleaner ocean fun! Details: I'm 6'1", 160lbs and the MT fits like a glove. Key loop is perfect. Don't throw your shoulders out getting in and out of it. Water temps have been in the upper 50s here and this thing is toasty—used mostly without the hood so far. Surfing and bodysurfing. Dries quick.
