We’ve been recycling materials since our early days forging pitons in the Tin Shed. With a reuse mentality imbedded in our DNA, it was only natural for us to build our Recycled Down Vest almost entirely from recycled materials. The reversible design let’s you adjust the vest’s level of insulation to meet prevailing conditions. Worn with the recycled polyester ripstop on the outside, the vest resists abrasion and stops moisture and wind with a DWR (durable water repellent) finish. For greater warmth and a snugger fit, place the 100% recycled polyester deep-pile fleece next to your body to trap heat. Either way, a cozy layer of 600-fill-power 100% recycled down—reclaimed from used down products—blocks cold air and holds onto your warmth. Handwarmer pockets both inside and out hold keys, phone and dark chocolate. A zippered chest pocket on the fleece side is inspired by the one on our iconic Retro-X® Jacket. The drop-tail design protects your backside for bike commuting or working under the truck. Comes with a stuffsack for easy packing.

100% Recycled Down

There’s a huge upside when you can turn waste into something beautiful; we’re doing that with Recycled Down. It’s a mix of 600-fill-power goose and duck down reclaimed from cushions, bedding and other used items that can’t be resold. The reclaimed down is washed, using detergent and thermal water at 34 degrees Celsius, then dried at 135 degrees Celsius (20 minutes longer than the industry standard), making it hypoallergenic. Recycled Down offers the identical performance benefits to virgin down.

Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Men's Recycled Down Vest is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Runs Large I typically wear a Large from Patagonia (including down sweater vests, fleece vests, etc.), but this one ran way too large on me. I could wear it over a base layer, flannel, down jacket... and there was still room leftover. As others have mentioned the buttons are pretty tight, but I imagine you'd get used to them. Nice looking vest otherwise, just too big for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stoked This vest is amazing I have been wearing it everyday since I got it because of how comfortable it is profiding the perfect amount of warmth. You can go from inside to outside cold temps and not be sweating inside I am a builder so some days I'm outside some days in. The pockets are amazing like a jacket not from the top like most vests! You can store a lot in the pockets and find your hands in there because of the great placement. It also comes with a great bag that I actually use for the vest or rain jacket depending on conditions.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great fit, looks great, warm, fantastic classic patagonia. the buttons are far to tight and not loose enough. it takes time to open and close them otherwise this would get all the stars imaginable

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light warm and stylish Very light but keeps me warm, excellent as part of insulation or when is not that cold with a thick shirt...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Patagonia at its Best I had very high expectations (and hopes) for this vest especially in terms of fit and performance. I am definitely not disappointed. The cut, function and fit are exactly what I expect. I am, in most cases, a men's large (shirts, shells, etc.) except when I anticipate layering. In this case, I bought the XL which is more than roomy for a capilene t-shirt, capilene zip, and a sweater or insulted top. And this vest is uber-warm. Reversable - Thank you..!! Of course, many kudos on the re-cycled materials use. Well-done Patagonia on all parameters, IMO. This product is well worth the money and I expect to wear it for many years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great casual vest I received this as an early X-mas present and have worn it every day since. Worn under my Mesclun jacket it extends that garments range down into the low 40s. It's definitely a technical garment, but it is light, warm, and windproof. The back-to-back buttons are a little (as another reviewer noted) but I'm getting used to them. All in all a nice addition to my Patagonia closet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great vest! Great vest with a traditional cut. Looks very stylish with either the fleece or the down side showing. Definitely much warmer with the fleece facing inwards. The double sided buttons take a little getting used to but after a couple days they are easy to fasten.
