For lines that require axes on the way up and edges on the way down, bring your ski mountaineering skills and top-flight gear. Our new Refugitive Pants allow unrestricted movement while providing full waterproof/breathable protection, thanks to an articulated design that uses lightweight, durable and stretchy 3-layer GORE-TEX® fabric. The fabric’s C-KNIT™ backer technology enhances breathability and softness, while the pants’ features include a gusseted crotch for full mobility, a separating waist with zippered fly, and interior elasticized hook-and-loop tabs to customize the waist fit. Two large, easy-access billowed thigh pockets complement a single, discreet right handwarmer pocket and two double-opening thigh vents (all with waterproof, PU-coated zippers). The double-cuff design has a durable scuff guard and an exterior shock-cord adjustment; gripper elastic and tie-down loops secure the inner gaiter. With belt loops, a jacket attachment loop and a concealed RECCO® reflector.

Water Resistant

DWR (durable water repellent) fabric finish repels light rain and snow and decreases dry times. When DWR is used in conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

Weatherproof

The construction of 3-Layer GORE-TEX® Products is unique. A 3-layer GORE-TEX® membrane is sandwiched between a soft outer material and a knit polyester backing material that increases durability. These garments keep you comfortable and protected from the elements without adding extra bulk or weight.

The GORE-TEX® membrane has 9 billion pores per square inch, with each pore 20,000 times smaller than a water droplet. These tiny holes are too small for water and wind to pass through from the outside. But these same pores are large enough for moisture vapor to pass through, so your body's perspiration is able to escape and you won’t feel clammy or uncomfortable inside your jacket.

Men's Refugitive Pants is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic pant I got these pants last fall and have put them through the ringer backcountry skiing and can say they are absolutely the best pants I have ever owned. I haven't seen a lot of reviews for these, and being someone who typically reads through lots of reviews I wanted to give Patagonia praise for these. First, the fit is perfect. I had previously owned a pair of Powslayer bibs, and frankly for touring they were just too baggy. These are trim so nothing gets in the way, but just loose enough so that as a hardshell they don't restrict any movement skinning. There is a little stretch which does add to comfort, but don't expect anything like a soft-shell. However, I have found after lots of experience in rapidly changing conditions, waterPROOF is always the way to go for pants. The adjustable waist elastic is fantastic. I still usually wear a belt but it may not be necessary, just personal preference. One gripe is that I do wish these came with suspenders that were removable (like the dual-point alpine pants). Since the belt loops are somewhat specialized, getting any suspenders to fit is tough, so I would prefer they were included. For reference I am 5'10" 175lbs (average I would say, in good shape, could be better with less beer) and went with the Med. and very happy. I 95% of the time wear the thermal boot length bottoms underneath, occasionally when it is uber frigid R1 pants. Second, features are minimalist to save weight but strike the right balance to not be short on pockets. The thigh pockets are pretty big, I normally stuff a beanie, liner gloves, a map, etc. in there and find them to be totally fine without being a huge hole that is just doubling material across the the entire upper leg. Very well designed. I have tried carrying my beacon there a few times and it works ok as well. Note Patagonia: Another nice feature to add would be a loop to attach a beacon, or clip gloves. The small upper right pocket seems useless. It is very shallow. I usually stuff some chap stick or a gel in there, but in my opinion there is no point to that pocket. And only on one side? What was the design thought here? The gaiters are simple and effective. Fit easily over my F1's, and I prefer the no zipper. The scuff guard has held up well. The thigh zippers are not even noticeable unless you want to open them up. When the sun started blazing and the corn was in full force this year, they dumped heat perfectly. Last, durability. These things are bulletproof, which is amazing how lightweight they are, the new Goretex is really amazing. I have bushwhacked, worked under the broke down truck on sharp gravel, tested the seat on many a bar stool, and blasted with rain to cold smoke and everything in between, and with a quick wash these look brand new again. I know they are going to last a long time, and if something goes catastrophically wrong, I know the worn wear team will get them back in working order. I look forward to these pants being there on every adventure and taking abuse from VT to AK and back for years to come. Buy these pants, you won't be disappointed. Salud Patagonia.
