The Rio Gallegos Zip-Front Waders bring the convenience of a waterproof front TIZIP® zipper to the toughest, most puncture-resistant, waterproof/breathable waders that we know how to engineer. Our Rio Gallegos Waders are built from our tested-and-proven 4-layer H2No® Performance Standard fabric package using single-seam construction to route critical seams away from areas of high wear, and a robust feature set offers the highest level of comfort, performance and durability. A slightly trimmer profile around the hip, waist and chest provides an improved fit that still easily accepts layers for long, cold sessions, while the innovative internal suspension system allows easy conversion to waist height when you aren’t wading deep. Motion-oriented patterning through the crotch means it’s no problem to swing a leg over gunwales, and articulation in the leg is designed for moments when fishing brings you to your knees—like keeping a fish wet during the photograph and release. If you fish in and out of boats, you’ll also appreciate the flat-panel gravel guards: They drain water quickly while resisting abrasion and wear while hiking or wading. Our booties have a more anatomical, sock-like fit and are made from a denser 4mm neoprene that resists compaction better over the long haul and have a poly-grid lining for added comfort. Outside, there are two handwarmer pockets and two stash pockets with water-resistant zippers. Interior gear storage includes a waterproof, flip-out welded TPU pocket; two new drop-in stretch pockets; and two internal daisy chains for tools. Other fishing-friendly features: center-back hanger loop for easy drying; stretch wading belt with low-profile buckle; removable knee pads; and a raised Fitz Roy Trout logo tops it off. Field repair kit included.
  • H2No® Performance Standard polyester microfiber shell with proprietary waterproof/breathable barrier and a DWR (durable water repellent) finish; highly durable and puncture-resistant fabric has no multiple layers or added weight
  • Submersible TIZIP® front zipper is fully waterproof; waist-mounted EZ-Lock suspenders allow easy conversion from chest to waist height; full elastic belt
  • Innovative SSC (single-seam construction) seaming eliminates seams from highest wear points on inside of legs
  • Interior organization: welded TPU-waterproof zippered pocket flips out for easy access; two drop-in stretch pockets; two internal daisy chains for tools; center-back hanger loop for easy drying
  • Exterior organization: chest handwarmer pockets; two stash pockets with water-resistant zippers; laser-cut Hypalon® utility keeper on suspenders allows easy access to tools, nippers, etc.
  • Articulated legs; removable foam knee pads
  • Anatomical left and right booties have lower volume, a more sock-like fit and are poly-grid lined for additional warmth and comfort; resilient 4mm neoprene resists compaction for greater durability

Water Resistant

DWR (durable water repellent) fabric finish repels light rain and snow and decreases dry times. When DWR is used in conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

Patagonia developed the 4-layer fabric construction for our waders to increase breathability and abrasion resistance, move moisture away from the body, and decrease the weight.

Our exterior fabrics are densely woven 100% polyester microfibers for durability and puncture resistance. On one side we apply our H2No® waterproof coating for waterproof/breathable performance. On the other side we apply a Hydrophilic laminate that pulls moisture away from the body so it can be passed out through the exterior shell.

To protect the hydrophilic laminate we use a soft polyester tricot lining that increases abrasion resistance yet maintains a soft, supple drape. Finally, we apply a DWR (durable water repellent) treatment as the first line of defense in keeping these waders waterproof.

Men's Rio Gallegos Zip Front Waders - King is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Waders Great waders I just got them, they are very comfortable. Haven't used them a lot as it is summer. I really like the zipper front.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Missing crucial drawstring closure around chest. The waders I purchased are solidly made of high quality materials. But the absence of a drawstring closure at or above the nipple line is a fairly serious failure on the design of these very expensive waders. I would love to return them to Patagonia and ask them to install this feature as I have very long legs and the XL King was the only option available for an appropriate inseam fit. As a consequence, the torso section of this size is WAY too big and billows far away from Patagonia's otherwise ideal fitted garments for a person of my size and stature. Even if I could fill out the body, the absence of a drawstring makes these almost unsafe to wear in any significant current. This is, in fact, a very significant failing. My three stars are only the result of the otherwise sturdy and careful construction. Patagonia shouldn't be giving itself a free pass on this omission. As a former product developer/manager in the outdoor retail clothing industry I'll hope someone will read this who has the opportunity to make a revision to this design. I am quite honestly surprised this wasn't discovered before it was brought to market as there are plenty of other manufacturers with less expensive waders that remembered this import facet. I cannot recommend this product until this gets fixed. If Patagonia would read this review and consider trying to fix my waders, I would bend over backwards to recommend these waders and Patagonia. Sincerely, Stephen

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Includes every bell and whistle Pros: After standing behind it's iron-clad guarantee, Patagonia provided credit to help me upgrade into their new zip-front Gallegos Waders. Between the numerous pockets, (both zip and hand-warming), sturdy entry zipper, knee pads and quick adjust suspender system, I honestly can't think of another feature that would do anything more than clutter up the design. I mistakenly ordered based on prior sizes and missed, but got it exactly right after I took the time to thoroughly review the online sizing chart. Patagonia's new sizing structure for waders is dead accurate, but take the time to closely review the offered guide before you order! (I'm 6'4" and 290 lb.s with a 35" inseam and XL Kings fit perfectly with just enough room for an active layer or two.) As a bonus, the company was fast and accurate in helping me correct my ordering mistake for a minimal shipping fee. Con: The only minor issue I've noticed is that the gravel guards were very tight for about the first three outings, but they seem to be relaxing a bit making them easier to get over my wading boots (size 14 feet could be part of the problem). Overall, another great Patagonia product!
