The Rio Gallegos Zip-Front Waders bring the convenience of a waterproof front TIZIP® zipper to the toughest, most puncture-resistant, waterproof/breathable waders that we know how to engineer. Our Rio Gallegos Waders are built from our tested-and-proven 4-layer H2No® Performance Standard fabric package using single-seam construction to route critical seams away from areas of high wear, and a robust feature set offers the highest level of comfort, performance and durability. A slightly trimmer profile around the hip, waist and chest provides an improved fit that still easily accepts layers for long, cold sessions, while the innovative internal suspension system allows easy conversion to waist height when you aren’t wading deep. Motion-oriented patterning through the crotch means it’s no problem to swing a leg over gunwales, and articulation in the leg is designed for moments when fishing brings you to your knees—like keeping a fish wet during the photograph and release. If you fish in and out of boats, you’ll also appreciate the flat-panel gravel guards: they drain water quickly while resisting abrasion and wear while hiking or wading. Our booties have a more anatomical, sock-like fit and are made from a denser 4mm neoprene that resists compaction better over the long haul and have a poly-grid lining for added comfort. Outside, there are two handwarmer pockets and two stash pockets with water-resistant zippers. Interior gear storage includes a waterproof, flip-out welded TPU pocket; two new drop-in stretch pockets; and two internal daisy chains for tools. Other fishing-friendly features: center-back hanger loop for easy drying; stretch wading belt with low-profile buckle; removable knee pads; and a raised Fitz Roy Trout logo tops it off. Field repair kit included.
  • H2No® Performance Standard polyester microfiber shell with proprietary waterproof/breathable barrier and a DWR (durable water repellent) finish; highly durable and puncture-resistant fabric has no multiple layers or added weight
  • Submersible TIZIP® front zipper is fully waterproof; waist-mounted EZ-Lock suspenders allow easy conversion from chest to waist height; full elastic belt
  • Innovative SSC (single-seam construction) seaming eliminates seams from highest wear points on inside of legs
  • Interior organization: welded TPU-waterproof zippered pocket flips out for easy access; two drop-in stretch pockets; two internal daisy chains for tools; center-back hanger loop for easy drying
  • Exterior organization: chest handwarmer pockets; two stash pockets with water-resistant zippers; laser-cut Hypalon® utility keeper on suspenders allows easy access to tools, nippers, etc.
  • Articulated legs; removable foam knee pads
  • Anatomical left and right booties have lower volume, a more sock-like fit and are poly-grid lined for additional warmth and comfort; resilient 4mm neoprene resists compaction for greater durability
  • H2No® Performance Standard shell. Upper: 4-layer, 5.8-oz 100% polyester microfiber high-density taffeta. Lower: 4-layer, 8.8-oz 100% polyester microfiber high-density double-weave taffeta. Both with a waterproof/breathable barrier and a DWR (durable water repellent) finish
  • 1315 g (46.4 oz)
  • Made in Vietnam.

Water Resistant

DWR (durable water repellent) fabric finish repels light rain and snow and decreases dry times. When DWR is used in conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

Weatherproof

Patagonia developed the 4-layer fabric construction for our waders to increase breathability and abrasion resistance, move moisture away from the body, and decrease the weight.

Our exterior fabrics are densely woven 100% polyester microfibers for durability and puncture resistance. On one side we apply our H2No® waterproof coating for waterproof/breathable performance. On the other side we apply a Hydrophilic laminate that pulls moisture away from the body so it can be passed out through the exterior shell.

To protect the hydrophilic laminate we use a soft polyester tricot lining that increases abrasion resistance yet maintains a soft, supple drape. Finally, we apply a DWR (durable water repellent) treatment as the first line of defense in keeping these waders waterproof.

Men's Rio Gallegos Zip Front Waders - Reg is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Zip Waders Rock! Durable wader that have just what you need and nothing more. If you have ever considered zip-up waders, they are worth every penny! Two zip breast pockets are perfect for the essentials & waterproof inside "tech" pocket eases the mind a bit for phones, wallet & other "must not get wet" accouterment. Roomy for layering.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Buy once, cry once! I recently bought these to replace a pair of Simms that were just too large in the chest and waist. The price made me a bit hesistant since I'm not a professional guide. I could not be happier with my purchase! The slim fit sizing is spot on! I'm 5'10" 175lbs and normally wear a size 34 waist with a 32 inseam. Size 11.5 shoe. The regular medium size is perfect for me. If anything, I would say that the booty feels a hair too large before putting boots on but I can feel no bunching or anything once I have my boots on. If you currently use a non-zip front wader, you may initially think that the pockets are on the small side when you first put these on. The truth is that with 2 hand warmer pockets and 2 zippered storage pockets, the storage space is pretty comparable to non-zip front wader. There is also a interior TPU dry pouch. This is too small to fit my phone so if you have a larger phone (Droid Turbo 2, Iphone+, etc..) it may not fit. I really haven't found a use for this storage pouch yet but I can't tell it's there when wearing the waders. I can't speak for long term longevity as I've only used these roughly 6 times but believe that these will last me many many years as a weekend river warrior.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Yay zip front! I have had these for a few weeks and have been on a few night fishing adventures. Feet get cold but water temp is in the mid 30's and air temp is in the 20's( I live above 9,000 ft). I have a SM and still have room to layer underneath, multiple bottom layers, down jacket etc. The zip front makes getting the waders on and off easier with layers and frozen hands. Also the zip makes for a more comfortable fishing day. No having to go and hold it because chest waders are a pain to pull down and not to get "wet". These are my second pair of Patagonia waders the cost is up there but more than worth it. They fix their gear after it fails due to hard use, which is better than other manufacturers ( caugh Redington caugh, out of warranty out of luck). If you are thinking of buying pull the trigger you won't be disappointed. Tight lines, Mikey D

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good zippered waders for the price I've been using the waders since this summer in the PNW. They are holding up very well so far, no issues to report. They are comfortable and allow for good movement. No restrictions hiking along river banks or getting in and out of drift boats. The EZ-lock suspenders and zipper are awesome for bio breaks... My only recommendations would be to make the chest handwarmer pockets bigger and zippered; make the TPU-waterproof pocket removable; re-shape the knee pads. I do a lot of Spey casting and my reel will snag in the handwarmer pocket holding a Spey rod under my arm. No snagging issues while rowing a drift boat. The knee patches are a cool concept but the patches are small and don't do a great job of covering the knee due to the bagginess of the waders. I think if the patches were bigger and shaped like a sort of hour glass they would provide better coverage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Features and Fit I had a pair of the first Rio Gallegos, non-zip, and I thought they were a tremendous set of waders. When it was time to replace them, I upgraded to the zip-fronts. I'm 6'5" and slim and I went with the medium longs. They offer the larger booty standard so I didn't need to pay for that extra feature as I did previously. A number of times out in them and these are easily the best waders I've used. Fit: easy to scramble over rocks and such, slimmer fit so I don't "kite" like loose waders in deeper water. Zip is a sweet feature that I highly recommend and along with the quick release strap making for a nice and easy clearance. Gravel guard is upgraded from my previous pair as well. Excellent waders!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Rio-Gallegos front Zip - break in period Upon getting leaky waders from my original Rio-Gallegos, the warrenty department was kind enough to give a credit for a new pair. I had purchased the Front Zip as we do a lot of volunteering and somne remote fly fishing, so i was looking for something with ease to get in and out in a hurry. The waders performed above expectations, took about 20-25 hrs of use to get "broken in" where the waste and grave gaurds loosened up just perfect. I am 6'2" about 230lbs, and the regular waders fit perfect. The only issue i have had is that upon putting about 100 hrs on them the inside crotch started to leak. My ignorance of not believing it happend again, so i tried numerous times to prove myself wrong, the end result is they are in the warrnety department for repair.... Some what dissappointed owner of wader #255. only time will tell.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thoughtful changes These new Rios have been redesignd from the ground up. The new gravel gaurds make taking the waders on and off a lot better. They stay over the boot better as well. The slimmed down chest and interior pockets/organizers are just what these waders needed.
