Organic Cotton

In 1996, with an increased awareness of the dangers of pesticide use and synthetic fertilizers in growing conventional cotton, we began the exclusive use of organically grown cotton in all of our cotton products.

The quality of organic cotton is equal to or better than conventionally grown cotton, yet organically grown methods support biodiversity and healthy ecosystems, improve the quality of soil and often use less water. Growing organically takes more time, requires more knowledge and skill, and, for now, costs more. But it’s worth it.

To ensure we are buying cotton that is organic as defined by the USDA’s National Organic Program, we require numerous certificates issued by an accredited third-party certification body for every step of the supply chain, from farm to factories.

Men's Stand Up Shorts® - 5'' is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 82.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great item once you get the right fit. Runs incredibly small at the waist. I am normally a size 30 and after reading reviews I ordered a size 32 and they were still too small. I ordered them in a size 34 again and they fit comfortably. The pockets are huge which I like and I can tell these shorts will last a long time. Other than the sizing issue, one other complaint is the width of the legs. I have pretty big thighs and while the length of these shorts are perfect, I definitely have to make sure I wear underwear with these otherwise they reveal a bit too much when sitting down..

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Who are these shorts sized for? Patagonia's Stand Up shorts have been my go-to shorts for years. Unlike some reviewers, I like the wide legs (for freedom of movement) and the short inseam. So when it came time to replace my last pair of old Stand Ups, I gladly paid the premium price online. However, like a lot of other reviewers, I was sorely disappointed in the sizing. Taking a cue from other reviewers, I ordered up, opting for a size 34 for my 32 waist. Alas, when the shorts arrived I could barely get them to fasten. Seriously? If there was a "runs very small" button, I would use it. And the material seems to be flimsier than my old iron Stand Ups. Patagonia has a manufacturing problem, and I will forego buying their shorts until I can be assured the problem is solved.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor sizing As an original Patagonia customer, who has been wearing stand up shorts since they were first introduced, I cannot express my dissatisfaction in the changes to the sizing of your stand up shorts. At first, I thought the shorts I received were just part of a bad manufacturing lot. It now appears to be an intentional change made by Patagonia, based on all the same customer comments. If Patagonia is going to make a major change to a signature product like Stand Up Shorts, in an effort to be transparent to the customer, it would be appreciated to let us know. That way we can all avoid the aggravation of returning products that do not fit.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good quality, but too small I bought these for my husband, who is usually between size 29 and 30. Reviews said they were small, so I sized up to and bought a 30. These were still way too small. People should definitely size up one or two sizes on these. We're sending them back.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Sizing is weird, too much fabric. The legs are too billowy and I risk exposure when lying on couch. I'd like them to be even shorter, but a little more snug. The waist is small, but the legs are huge. I have just been wearing around house for now, haven't gone adventuring very far.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very disappointed. By direct comparison with the two pair of size 38" Stand Up shorts I already own the waistband on this pair of shorts is almost two inches smaller! You'll be getting these back.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Manufacturer changed I have been buying this exact same short for over twenty years and replace it when the one I have has worn out. The previous shorts were manufactured in Thailand and were consistently sized the same. Imagine my surprise when the new pair of shorts came in the same size as in previous orders; however, they were about two inches smaller in the waist. The new pair was made in Sri Lanka and obviously not wearable. Patagonia gave no advisement that there would be this radical change in size with their change in factories. No conversion size table has been issued for exchanging the received pair for a much needed replacement.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Shorts I bought a pair of these shorts at the beginning of the summer and wore the heck out of them. They have held up amazingly. The length is perfect, if you like short shorts. The funny looking pockets in the back are really well designed for throwing things in while running around outside, and ideal for tools while I'm working. I like them so much I bought a second pair in August.
