On tropical atolls, the only thing more ferocious than a feeding GT is the sun. Fortunately, our Sunshade Technical Hoody, with its ultralight 3.5-oz polyester fabric and 50+ UPF sun protection, offers full upper-body coverage and a cool, airy feel. Thumb-holes pull the sleeves down to cover the backs of the hands for additional protection; the relaxed hood fits easily over a baseball cap; and an upgraded vertical-zip pocket keeps small essentials secure. Zipper is durable plastic to prevent corrosion in marine environments. When the flats heat up, don’t wilt—just pull up the hood and keep on fishing.
  • Lightweight, quick-drying 100% polyester double knit with 50+ UPF sun protection
  • Hood is designed to be worn over a baseball cap
  • Front chest pocket with vertical zip closure; zipper is 100% plastic to prevent corrosion

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as described perfectly I've used this climbing in Texas and Mexico as a sunshade hoodie to not get burnt and it's fantastic. Ultra light in warm weather and good material to layer with in cooler weather. I originally bought mine at the recommendation of a Rainier guide who raved about how useful it was climbing in the cascades.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice piece of gear! It runs a bit large so I got the medium. I'm a large in all other Patagonia gear. It's my new favorite piece of gear. It Works in winter under my ski helmet too! I can't wait to try it in the sun.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best sun hoody yet. Bought this for backcountry skiing here in the eastern sierra. Fit and fabric better than the previous two versions. The thumb hole cuffs are better positioned and the length is nice.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Stay Cool I bought one of these for my recent trip to SE Asia and I'm glad I did. I was a little skeptical at first but they really do keep you cooler in the sun! The zipper pocket on the chest is great for keeping your valuables safe. I wish they'd offered different colors when I bought mine as the light grey/white one stains very easily but the light color is great for the sun. That being the case I'd still probably opt for one of the less stain-prone colors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Protection Took this out for a day of tarpon fishing off Sarasota, FL. Eight hours on a flats boat with nary a cloud in site. This kept my pasty skin from bursting into flame and managed to be fairly cool in 90 degree heat and brutal humidity. It did not, however, do anything for my skill with a 12wt rod.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from multi-use garment a perfect hoody with youthful style! Great material for warm and cool weather-washes up easily. I prefer the style with the front pocket and fitted stiching. I've purchased two and would purchase more if there was a broader color selection.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for intended use. I opted for the sunshade hoodie to keep me covered during hiking, camping, and river sport. The long sleeves and hood, in conjunction with bug spray, were a lifesaver while hammock camping near a mosquito swarmed creek. It was comfortable and cool to sleep in. If steady breeze is present, the shirt stays cool enough while on the move with a pack, but not cool enough to be the Texas hot-weather (90F ) multisport sun-shirt I was looking for. While comfortable, Patagonia and others offer softer shirts of the same style. The material catches on the hook

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I was looking for A friend of mine put on a sunshade layer while we were watching a sporting event on a warm day in bright sun, and said it's her favorite garment to have along. Hers was a full-zip from another outdoor outfitter, and I figured if I wanted something like it, I'd want no zipper. That outfitter didn't have a no-zip for men, so I checked out Patagonia since I've had good luck with sizing. I planned to use it for SUP and fishing in Florida so I could eliminate the wide-brimmed hat and excessive sunscreen. I chose the Technical Hoodie because of the zipper pocket design (another version had a horizontal zipper) and the advertised loose fit and roomy hood for caps. Regarding the size, I was leaning toward medium because even though I'm 6'1" I have a shorter torso, which makes long-sleeve tech clothes tricky when it comes to sleeve length. Another reviewer on here seemed to have the same concern and the reference to a good fit with his "knuckle-dragging arms" convinced me not to go with a large, and the medium looks and fits great. This is the case with a Patagonia micro fleece layer I have, and tends to be true with jackets I try on in stores. Lastly, using the thumb holes doesn't pull the shoulders down or make the sleeves restrictive. I really like the Electron Blue color I chose, as well- it's bright enough to battle the sun, but not garish, and something different from white or gray.
