If you’ve ever run to catch a train, pedaled into a headwind to reach work or hustled to stay ahead of an afternoon thundershower, then you know the significance of stretch. Built for off-trail backpacking, remote treks in faraway locations and obscure climbing destinations, Tribune Shorts have a 4-way stretch nylon/spandex fabric that provides the full range of mobility as well as day-after-day comfort. Pockets include two front, one rear (with zip closure) and a handy right thigh pocket for your small essentials. Inseam 11".

bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Water Resistant

DWR
(durable water repellent) fabric finish repels light rain and snow and decreases dry times. When DWR is used in conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Stretchy and comfortable I bought these thinking they would be the next iteration of my favorite Rock Guide shorts. They sort of are, but are also significantly different. The fabric feels heavier, like a cotton short, and tougher, also stretchier. Seems to just shrug off rock scrapes, prickly plants, metal gear, etc. without damage. Length is good, fit is slim but works for me; between the cut and the stretch I have no problem high-stepping or stemming. The other big difference is that all pockets are zippered now, whereas on my old Rock Guide shorts the single back pocket and the thigh pocket were zippered, and the scoop front pockets were open. In theory, zippers are an improvement because your pockets won't decant your stuff at some inopportune moment. In practice, I never dropped stuff out of the open pockets of the old shorts, and the new zippered pockets are annoying. But I'm new to them, so it's possible I'll come to like the feature. One feature I won't come to like is the thigh pocket - it's just too small. When I'm not actually outdoors, this pocket is where I park my phone. Great fit on the old Rock Guides; a too-snug fit in the Tribune's pocket. And I use an iPhone 5, so one of the smaller smartphones out there. If you're rocking' a Galaxy S6 you're gonna have trouble. Still, if that's my only major complaint the shorts must be pretty good. As I get more wear time on them I expect I'll like them a lot.
