It’s like a double classic combo—animal style. The new Wavefarer® Stand Up Shorts® are built from our light and durable Wavefarer Supplex® nylon (38% recycled) with 50+ UPF sun protection and a DWR (durable water repellent) finish, offering versatility and performance through morning paddle-outs or afternoons spent mowing foam in the shaping bay. With styling inspired by our much-loved Stand Up Shorts, they have a doubled-fabric seat for abrasion resistance and a flat-lying rubber button fly with bartacked ladderlock drawstring for long-wearing comfort in the water. Loops allow you to add a belt on land; the large topstitched front pockets are self-draining and have reinforced stitching for utility and strength. One of the two large self-draining rear pockets is zippered to keep your essentials secure. Outseam is 20".

bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Recycled Nylon

Although we’ve been using recycled polyester in our garments for 20 years, for some reason locked deep in polymer chemistry, nylon is more difficult to recycle than polyester. After years of research, development, and testing, we’re finally finding some recycled nylon fibers that are suitable for apparel.

Some of the recycled nylon we use comes from post-industrial waste fiber, yarn collected from a spinning factory, and waste from the weaving mills that can be processed into reusable nylon fiber.

We’re diligently searching for a success story with recycled nylon. The challenge lies ahead of us, and we’re committed to discovering the best methods to recycle nylon fiber, but it appears this evolution will take many years.

Men's Wavefarer Stand-Up Shorts - 20 In. is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice looking and functional board or walking short Wore these shorts swimming, boarding, running, and hiking. They've held up well, drying at a decent time. They have nice deep pockets in the front, a zipper and key string in the back. My only wish is for the pockets to be mesh so that the sand that gets into them can filter out. Also, for the material to be a bit more stretchy for more maneuverability. Otherwise, solid shorts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love these shorts! I bought the grey camouflage pattern on sale and have been very happy with them. They are lightweight and well constructed with ample sized pockets. I wore them fly fishing for smallmouth bass in a local river, wet wading just above the knee. They were perfect. Dried out quickly, were dry before I got back to the car.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from new favs I bought all three wavefarer walkshort hybrids as I didnt know how they would be in person, and I figured I would just keep the one I liked the best. I kept all three...They are insane, and these are my favorites just due to the durability and deep pockets. Great summer shorts Im probably wearing these and the other pairs way too much....!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for anything! These are probably the best pair of shorts I own. They are great in the water - dried quick and felt great when hiking afterwards. They are great on land - the activities I've done in these include: hiking, golf (the belt loops are great!), yard work, hanging out, etc. I could really wear these shorts for almost any occasion! I highly recommend these, as they feel like normal shorts in and out of the water, and can do anything!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great but needs a little work. Overall I love these shorts. They fit true to size. Feel really comfortable. I know they will be part of my wardrobe for a long time. The only negative I've noticed so far is the nylon webbing that holds the button fly in place can be seen as if the fly is being pulled open/ too loose. I may exchange my pair and see if it's just a manufacturing defect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best These are quite possible the most comfortable short/trunks ever. I have 3 pair and wear them almost daily. The only questing is why is there a Patagonia logo on the inside of the zipper pocket?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Shorts with all the Right Features I can't say enough good things about these shorts. I had always been a fan of the traditional organic cotton Patagonia stand-up shorts. Last year Patagonia introduced these shorts with the same pocket design as their stand-up shorts and I decided to buy a pair. I used them the entire summer and they still look brand new. Here is what I like. Same top loading rear pocket design as the stand-up shorts, front cargo style pockets are deep enough to keep everything in place without letting items fall out when I sit down, the shorts are very light weight, they have a zippered pocket in the rear to secure items in place during activities and the fabric dries quickly so I can use them for any activity so they can be used in the water but also for everyday wear without looking like I have a pair of swim trunks on. I have taken these shorts on an extended vacation, washed them in the sink and hung them to dry and they are ready to go the next morning. I am glad to see Patagonia is offering more colors / designs this year, I have already ordered another color to use this summer. Great pair of shorts and if you like the Patagonia stand-up short design you should enjoy these as well.
