Named for the small Northern California town where you can tuck away and rediscover yourself on the rugged Lost Coast. Our largest top-loading backpack, the Petrolia has a zippered-entry design for easy access to your gear and enough room inside to hold all the goods for a full day on the trail. A dedicated side-access laptop pocket, raised above the bottom of the pack to protect your electronics, allows you to keep your 15" or smaller machine inside the pack as you pass through security; it also doubles as a hydration pocket when you’re traversing open country. The large main compartment holds bulkier items like a harness, shoes and a rain shell and has an internal organizational panel to ferry your small essentials securely. A zippered stash pocket on the lid keeps a map or phone within reach and two stretch-woven side pockets carry water bottles or your hat and gloves. Breathable airflow mesh shoulder straps and back panel provide cool, all-day comfort under heavy loads. A front stretch-mesh pocket expands to hold a sweater or a damp towel after your afternoon of skinny-dipping in Tuolumne. Made from 450-denier recycled polyester plain weave, with a 450-denier recycled polyester ripstop bottom. The lining is 200-denier 100% polyester. All fabrics have a DWR (durable water repellent) finish.

Water Resistant

DWR
(durable water repellent) fabric finish repels light rain and snow and decreases dry times. When DWR is used in conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.
