Read More Close
In the flow of a full backcountry day, you interact with your pack more than any other piece of gear. And if it doesn’t work seamlessly, you end up wasting time and energy. Sized for long days deep into the backcountry, the burly SnowDrifter has a design that complements the unique demands of moving through the winter mountains under your own power. It has a dedicated compartment for snow safety tools with individual sleeves and pockets for your probe, shovel, snow saw and more. The large main compartment opens two ways—via a fast U-shaped zippered lid or a zip-open back panel to provide instant access to all your gear without unloading the pack. A separate microfleece-lined pocket keeps your goggles handy and protected from sharp edges. The suspension system incorporates heat-venting, snow-sloughing mesh on the shoulder straps, back panel and padded waistbelt for all-day carrying comfort. Front and side compression straps with locking cam buckles provide numerous carry options for your skis and boards. The top-mounted haul handle is reinforced and sized for gloves. Made from burly 420-denier CORDURA® 100% nylon plain weave for puncture and abrasion resistance, with an even tougher 940-denier CORDURA Ballistic 100% nylon base with polyurethane coating. Both fabrics have a DWR (durable water repellent) finish.

Water Resistant

DWR (durable water repellent) fabric finish repels light rain and snow and decreases dry times. When DWR is used in conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

Snowdrifter - 30L is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Considering Travel? I went back-and-forth between this bag and ordering the Osprey Porter 30 for all season travel. I wanted something built for both summer travel, and winter travel, which is why I ended up ordering the snow drifter...since it was built for rugged snow I figured I'd be all set! In Patagonia's defense, they do not advertise this as a travel bag- and the porter is specifically for that purpose. I also chose this bag because of the color choices- I ordered the women's navy and brilliant blue and I absolutely love the colors. I'm 5'5" and it fits my frame well. It is extremely comfortable and well padded. There is no denying that this is a well-made bag which is why I gave it 4 stars! The quality is impeccable... however this bag is not easy to get into, even from the back entry which is what I originally wanted. You have to kind of wrestle with it when it's packed full and there are minimal pockets. Tons of places to hang gear on the outside of the bag, so I did hang sandals and a sweater off it going through the airport and I really liked that feature. This bag is an excellent gear bag, but if you are considering travel with it, I would definitely not consider this bag an option and I will still be purchasing the Porter 30 for my next trip. 30L is the perfect size, stowed under plane seats well. Holds up impressively- took a beating and is still beautiful, but I was the only Traveler of 4 always fighting and struggling to get into and out of my bag to grab something. The top entry is not quite wide enough to pull things out of and the back entry needs to be lined up perfectly to zip open so you fight with it a bit. I even packed light going to save room for new purchases and I had the same struggle both ways!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from No place for a helmet I love this backpack, have been skiing with it for two years, but struggle to continue using it as my main pack because I can't fit my gear and my helmet inside. Please make a helmet holder that can be added onto this pack!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Needs helmet holder! I won this in a draw, it's a great pack but I can't use it ski touring as there is no way to carry my helmet- deal breaker! Will be selling this one and waiting for the upgrade...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Bag! I bought this bag at the beginning the the last ski season and I loved using it through out the season for both resort and back country use. This bag holds more than you think it would. Not only just holding an extra layer or two and my lunch but I fit all of my gear in this bag at the end of the day (I hang my ski boots from the sides). The many functions for latching your skis to the bag while hiking are very easy and fast to use. This bag has been everything I wanted and more.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice pack! I bought this day pack a few weeks ago, and I fabric is lightweight but VERY durable. I walk to/from work, and it's the perfect pack for commuting, even when weather is challenging. The only downside is my own person adjustment to the way the pack is only accessible from the top (for grabbing quick things). The padded small zipper pouch with soft lining is perfect for my phone & sunglasses -- right at the top of the pack. I also like how the back completely unzips during times of need. The pack is VERY comfortable, and my torso is short, but the pack adjusts perfectly. The colors are fantastic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great pack, lightweight. Light, supportive, great storage, and back access zip is super clutch when on the snow.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stellar organization and functionality This is the first pack I have owned with back panel access and I love it. Easy to toss in the snow and peel open the back without getting the rest of my stuff wet. It's also great to always have my avy essentials organized and ready, with plenty of room left for tour supplies.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good, but disappointed Overall I'd have to agree with the other reviews. I like this backpack a lot but there are a couple finicky things. I agree it needs pockets in the waist strap for easy access to snacks/cameras etc. The other main problem I had with this pack is that the front pocket for avy gear is a bit smaller than the main compartment. Unfortunately, this means my 300cm probe won't actually fit in the pocket. I have a G3 300cm aluminum probe with the top toggle to allow you to clip it with a carabiner to your harness for glacier travel. I've been letting the toggle stick out though the zipper to get everything in. In good conditions its not a huge deal but as soon as it starts snowing its going to be an issue. Will probably buy a replacement pack ASAP.
