Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Women's Active Hipster is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 50.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Go back to the old design!!! I have probably a dozen pairs of these from at least 10-12 years ago and all are in pristine condition even though I mostly only wear these underwear. All of the newer pairs I have purchased in the past few years are failing, the waistband is coming un- sewn and the fabric is thinner. The old ones were amazing, listen to the reviews and go back to the old fabric and design, please!!! More plain and neutral colors would be great too!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best underwear ever ruined by a tag I have searched high and low for the perfect underwear, and I finally found it! Fits great, STAYS PUT, wicks moisture/sweat. One problem...what's with the stupid sewn-in tag? Who does that, Patagonia?? Put on your readers and pick out the thread, or it will irritate you to death!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent comfort, let's see how they last ... I have worn and loved this style for many, many years -- it is the most comfortable of Patagonia's offering for backpacking, hiking, and daily use. No rolling, rubbing, or chafing, with any movement or temperature. That said, I am hoping that these last better than the pairs that I purchased 18 months ago -- I've replaced them due to unraveling stitches and thinning fabric. Hopefully, those were just a poorer quality anomaly. I have hipsters from 5+ years ago that truly look brand new: the fabric and stitching are pristine despite 100s and 100s of miles of wear in mountain across the world. Truly an excellent value. I also note that another pair with a print design (like the flower on this year's version) from a couple years ago is bleeding/fading (despite cold water wash, plant-based detergent). No problems like that on solid or striped designs. Sizing has always been consistent. I'm 5'4", 125 lbs, athletic, and a small is perfect.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Updating previous review "Almost Perfect" I love almost everything about this underwear, but... Fabric, fit, and colors are great for exercising, travel, and everyday wear. I own at least a dozen pairs, purchased over the past 3 years or so, and the waistband seam has come unraveled on nearly all of them. In some cases, this happened after only a few wearings. This is really not acceptable, especially at this price point. With regret, I am switching to "Not Recommended" until this quality issue is addressed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Now with two tags to scratch you! I've ordered and worn these underwear for years - they are just the best fitting, most comfortable underwear I've ever found. The latest batch I ordered came with a surprise, though - instead of the size/wash info being printed on the inside of the underwear, there were two tags attached with the information. Problem 1. These are UNDERWEAR! Having scratchy tags against one's nether regions is bad! Problem 2. One of the tags is paper and tore off ok (except for the one pair where tearing it off ripped the hem out), but the other tag is cloth and sewn on. And I can feel it. GRRRR. 3. Once you rip off the blessed tags, you don't have the size/wash info anymore. People, these things were perfect - why screw them up?!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not hold up I bought 5 of these a year ago. Everyone of them had the seams tear out. I have had other styles that have lasted 5 years. I am very disappointed as these are somewhat pricey.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bring Back Wider Waistband, more supportive fabric These are totally my go-to underwear, I LOVE THEM! But...the latest redesign has significantly narrowed the waistband. Also the last few iterations of design had issues with the band ripping and "unfolding." I have been wearing these since they first came out and initially they were the PERFECT active underwear with no binding and so incredibly breathable. I wish the designers would re-visit the old designs and consider looking at the waistband dimensions and product fabric and maybe going back to something along those lines. One other thing...for YEARS I have wished that Patagonia would create these in some nice, neutral subtle colors. Fun colors are great, but when you love these as much as I do...it's better to have white, nude, gray. Just a few that can be worn under lighter clothing. I tell you, if these changes were made these would be my ONLY underwear! I have read a lot around the web where women have the same idea I do: wanting them in light neutral colors and wishing for the wider band/more supportive fabric. Please consider my suggestions--look at what happens with these on the web. Women literally buy them out in no time, the black is the first to go because it's kind of a sensible color and the minute older models go on for sale on ebay they are snapped up immediately. If you market the neutrals as go-to underwear not just for active sports but your active life: work/school/etc. people will go for it! And going with more subtle or no graphic at all would be awesome. I'm only checking "no" on recommending the product to a friend in its current design state. Previous designs...I would certainly recommend. They are the best! (except for the 2015 model's tendency for the waistband stitching to fail). Thanks for listening.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from functional enough for a 24 hour work shift I bought a couple of these for work. As a fire fighter, I work 24 hour shifts. I need a pair of undies that will stay dry, comfortable, functional and withstand all kinds of heavy activity! These have passed the test in not just the heat but also during workouts, on water calls and mountain calls. I am a size 8/medium, 5'9" and athletic. Size Medium in these fits great!
