Meet the new meaning to the word multitasker. Summer, winter and both shoulder seasons, our Capilene® Midweight fabric hits the sweet spot of weight, breathability and wicking that is the essence of versatility worn alone or with additional layers. It keeps you dry and comfortable when worn during high-exertion activities in cool-to-moderate temperatures and insulates beneath a shell in cold weather. Constructed with a Polartec® Power Grid™ fabric, it has a smooth face for easy layering and a brushed-back grid that aids in wicking as well as warmth. The fabric has 63–93% recycled-polyester content and is treated with Polygiene® permanent odor control. Features include a long center-front zipper for venting, internal neck tape for next-to-skin comfort, full underarm gussets for unhindered shoulder mobility, elastic thumb loops for secure hand coverage, flatlock seams to minimize chafing, offset shoulder and side seams to lie smoothly beneath pack straps, and a drop tail for additional coverage.

bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Women's Capilene® Midweight Zip-Neck is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works in lots of desert conditions As a mountain biker in the desert southwest, I need light weight base layers for cold seasons and sun coverage when it's hot. This top works for both. I've had ten or more over the years, and they keeps getting better. Great colors, no stink anymore, loose enough to wear over a jersey and arm warmers, long enough to keep the lower back covered under a pack. I'm 5'5 and 130 lbs and the medium is perfect.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Needs a little tweaking I bought this as a winter baselayer, have worn it a few times but wishing I could return it. The sleeves are too short, though the torso and waist fit me well. I'm usually a xsmall or small and bought this in a xsmall on clearence. I love the beautiful green color but am wishing the material was thicker and had a soft brushed interior. Overall it's an ok top, not what I expected from Patagonia.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not as expected but ok lightweight Got this for my daughter to wear skiing and although she says it is pretty warm it is listed as a mid weight layer and i is very thin/light.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect baselayer I have had this baselayer for a little more than a month now. I have used it for everyday wear, biking, and hiking. My arms are short so I find the sleeve length to be perfect. My dad also has this baselayer and he has used his for xc skiing, snowshoeing, and hiking. We both love it and find it to be comfortable and versatile.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice fit, VERY thin fabric I understand it is meant as a base layer, but almost see through (bra beneath, etc). I don't understand why Patagonia seems to be using cheaper materials, and being less generous with their products. I've worn their products for decades but am returning multiple items from my latest order.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very Odd Fit I was completely surprised by the fit on this 1/4 zip. Normally I can forgive an awkward cut on a base layer. But this fit is even problematic under top layers. The sleeves are at least 2" too short. The chest is so roomy that it actually droops as it hangs and pools from the shoulders. The torso is a bit short and slim so the resulting fit is a loose top and tight midsection. The navy fabric also has a slight sheen to it which only works to further highlight the unflattering cut. Really need this piece so disappointed that this year won't be my year for a Pat zip-neck. 36" Chest / 40" Hips / 140lbs

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Oh Patagoina, what have you done? The mid-weight Capilene has been a winter staple in my wardrobe for at least 10 years. I've gone through possibly 2 style changes since my first order. The first change increased the width of the body and made the fabric a little thinner so that my usual size Small felt boxy and unflattering. I measure at ~33" chest and 28" waist. I decided to give it one more try with an XS in the latest version, which gives me the fit back in the torso but leaves me looking like I found this in the Petite section. The shoulder seams have changed and this shirt no longer accommodates my broader shoulders. They steal length from the sleeves, rendering them short and the nifty new thumb elastic useless. The length of the body is ok, but could be an inch or two longer if I'm being honest. But setting that aside please please please bring back the raglan type shoulder seam and the old fit. It is dearly missed as my 10 year old shirts are finally due for an update.
