Learn More Close
A favorite among our alpine and snow ambassadors, the Capilene® Thermal Weight One-Piece Suit eliminates the extra seams and potential cold spots of a traditional top and bottom layering system. The micro-grid fleece interior of our Capilene® Thermal Weight provides the greatest warmth combined with the greatest breathability of any baselayer in our lineup. Soft, stretchy and compressible, the Polartec® Power Grid™ fabric has a smooth face that glides beneath layers and a brushed fleece interior to warm your core, wick moisture and feel smooth against your skin. Capilene® Thermal Weight has 30-92% recycled content and is treated with Polygiene® permanent odor control. Features include a high collar and self-fabric hood with anatomical shaping for warmth, a long center-front zipper for venting, a gusseted crotch for mobility, a side-zip drop-bottom, flatlock seams to minimize chafing, and offset shoulder and side seams to lie smoothly beneath pack straps.
  • Polartec® Power Grid™ fabric (with Polygiene® permanent odor control) has a smooth face for easy layering; fabric’s open-grid pattern next to skin provides superior warmth, breathability and moisture-wicking performance; spandex for stretch and ease of movement
  • High collar and self-fabric hood with anatomical shaping for warmth and overlapping ponytail exit below helmet line
  • Long center-front zipper vents body heat and is backed by kissing welts for low-bulk comfort next to skin
  • Offset shoulder seams eliminate chafing under pack straps
  • Full underarm gusset for range of motion and chafe-free comfort
  • Gusseted crotch for comfort and unimpeded mobility
  • Fully closing zip drop bottom
  • 3.8-oz (129-g) Polartec® Power Grid™ fabric. Solids: 92% recycled polyester/8% spandex; heathers: 92% polyester (30% recycled)/8% spandex; both with Polygiene® permanent odor control. Fabric is bluesign® approved

bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Odor Resistant

Polygiene® odor control permanently protects your garments from smelling like a middle school locker room. Sweat itself is odorless, but it creates the conditions that bacteria need to multiply, and some of those bacteria produce odors. Polygiene permanent odor control stops the growth of odor-causing bacteria on fabrics, so you can wear more and wash less.

Active only on the fabric surface, Polygiene permanent odor control does not interfere with perspiration or with the skin’s natural bacterial flora. Polygiene particles are more than 100 times larger than nanoparticles and therefore are too large to penetrate to the skin’s barrier. Polygiene-treated fabrics have received Medical Class 1 approval in Europe, the same class that includes bandages.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The only base layer I need I ditched all my old tight base layers for this suit, and I am both warmer and lighter--a winning combination. My only regret is not making the purchase sooner! Usually I am a S in Patagonia apparel, but I got this in M and am happy with the loose fit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cozy like jam-jams The biggest problem with this piece of clothing is motivating myself to take it off. I wear it every day Alpine skiing. I love the thumb loops so there's no gap with my gloves. The hood is absolutely perfect under my Patagonia balaclava. It's back waist zippers make it super easy to use the zip-drop bottom. It fits like a glove with plenty of stretch and length in all the right places. It keeps me just the right amount of warm. I really hate to take it off at the end of the ski day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Probably not going to take this off I only just got this in the mail, so I can't speak to performance or durability, but I will say I'm very excited. I'm 5'11" and 145 lbs and for Patagonia stuff I'm usually a size S for tops (34B bust and 26.5" waist) and a M for bottoms (37.5" hips and 35" inseam, athletic legs). Needless to say, I wasn't sure which size to choose for a onesie. I went with an S because this is supposed to be a close-fitting item, and it fits perfectly, which is why I'm guessing that this runs a tiny bit large (I'm thin but not a small woman). I was worried the legs would be shorter, but they come to about 3 inches above my ankle bone—not too bad. The sleeves could stand to be an inch longer, but no complaints. I hope that these measurements are specific enough to help anyone else who is struggling to guess the right size! Also, the lupine-harvest moon color is beautiful and looks great with the yellow zipper—good combo, color team. I bought this for an upcoming 3-week winter Grand Canyon rafting trip to wear under my dry suit (and all the time...). I'm hoping the two drop seats are compatible :) It will be great for skiing too!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect weight, easy to use and essential trapdoor I bought this to wear under bow this the pow slayer bins and a onesie, took it up to Chatter Creek, BC for a week of cat skiing with a bunch of dudes. Handling potty time in the alpine with no privacy is always an adventure, this fabulously warm layer was perfect! Easy in and out, comfy, perfect. Highly recommend!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing I've owned this for about a year and have used it extensively for all kinds of outdoor adventures - dirtbiking, snowmobiling, skiing, etc. I also sleep in it while camping in cold weather. I once wore it for about a week straight, day and night, on a dirtbike camping trip, and it was surprisingly not smelly. It keeps me warm, but not too warm. When I do get sweaty from physical activity, it dries quickly. I am 5'4", petite, and about 115-120lb. XS fit me perfectly (same size I get in other patagonia gear). Somebody asked me what the best purchase I made in the past year was. I said this. I really can't think of anything I'd change about it. I've put it through the wringer and still see no major signs of wear. I've seen other capilene reviewers complain that the capilene fabric is see-through. If you are worried about somebody seeing your underwear through your underwear, then why are you walking around in your underwear?

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Dissapointment in sizing. I bought this one-piece suit to keep my body warm while traversing the Utah desert in the dead of winter. Temperatures bounce between negative and positive 20 degrees. I spend my entire days outside, no matter the weather. As a Wilderness Therapy Field Instructor, I am a lover of this company and the wild weather it aids me to combat. I paired this one-piece with some Patagonia thermals, a Patagonia hoodie, and some Patagonia fleece pants. Though I feel as though I understand the sizing chart with this company (I own many items), the sizing on this one-piece was utterly disappointing. Because I need to wear this one-piece for 16 days of each month, I haven't been able to exchange it. I'm afraid I am stuck with an item that is too big. The largeness, I feel, defeats the effectiveness of the product. Looking back I wish I had gone with my instinct and had gotten a size small. Note: I am a 5'5" woman that weighs 135 lbs. The reviews on the site and the sizing chart led me to believe that I would be a size M. This product would most likely be more efficient as a snug fitting piece. My hope is to return/exchange for the correct sizing at the end of the season if the company will allow it and if the product isn't completely destroyed by then. Also: I do really love this product. The zippers are not itchy against my skin and the butt flap is easily undone. It is comfortable and soft and I often times forget I'm wearing it. I love the hood too, it is an easy extra head layer for windy days.
