UPF Fabric

Lacking fur, feathers or scales, we humans have to think up clever ways to protect ourselves from the sun. Products with the UPF designation provide built-in sun protection that won’t wear off.

To achieve sun protection, Patagonia takes a varied approach, depending on the degree of protection desired and the fabric used. Elements of the strategy can range from yarn selection to fabric construction to the use of special finishes (especially for light colors which generally provide less protection).

Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not consistent I love this top but it's not consistent. This top is great for working out, yoga, hiking, you name it and it's super soft. Unfortunately, you can buy a certain color in the same size and it will be much bigger in certain places than other colors. I hope the designers address this issue because the material this top is made out of is amazing.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice from the front... The fabric is very soft and stretchy. I'm 5'4" / 170 lbs / athletic build with a little extra from holiday cookies in the mid section. The X-Large was way too big all and the Large looked great from the front and seemed to fit great except for in the area where the fleur cut outs were in the back of the shirt,.. it poofed out only in small area with the cut-outs made it look really weird. I'm thinking it might be best for someone that is already fit and has an hourglass shape vs my current boxy shape which didn't work with this top. If it didn't have the cut-outs it would be a sweet shirt and the large would have been the right size (my normal size) but unfortunately it is being sent back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super comfy I love this tank. It's great for everything from hiking and yoga to working out and rock climbing. The fabric is super comfortable, breathable and moisture wicking. It's long enough that you don't have to worry about your shirt riding up during a yoga class. My one very small complaint is that it's a bit too loose in the stomach, which leads to some extra fabric bagging up in the middle. Small issue, but not the end of the world. Love this tank. For reference, I'm 5'4" and 150 lbs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You will not regret buying this tank I absolutely love the fit and look of this top. I ordered two of the same, one from this year and one from last (sale price). I ordered both in size small even though I was nervous about it being too small. I've always fit in Medium from Patagonia, but in all other clothes mainly I'm small. Basically, Patagonia has always run small for me. I heard from other reviewers that Patagonia is adjusting their sizing to reflect a more standard fit. I'm here to say that both tanks (last year and this year) do reflect that change. I would not have been happy with a medium. As other reviewers have noted, this tank is on the longer side, and also doesn't have a shelf bra. Neither of these things bother me as I have a small chest that doesn't require wearing a bra all the time, plus too long is better than too short. I'm so excited to have both of these tanks for the summer and I do believe I will be ordering more! For the record, I'm 5'8" and 140#s and the small fit perfectly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect pregnant workout top Being tall, busty, and pregnant I was glad to find that this top is long, stretchy, and big around the middle. The back is so flattering and the fabric has a great hand. Layers well over the compression bra especially in a contrasting color or under a jean jacket. Goes nicely with jeans or yoga pants. I've worn it running, climbing, doing yoga, in TRX and kettlebell class, and out for coffee after.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New Favorite Tank Love the fit (I'm 5'7", 130 pounds, and the small fits well without being too tight around the waist), and I like the longer length. The material is really comfortable, and I like the colors. Has been great for climbing, yoga, and running. Planning on ordering another.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great tank I ordered this tank a few weeks ago and it has quickly become a regular in the workout rotation ever since. It has been great for yoga, cross-training, running, and it has even been out as a baselayer for ski touring (where wicking is really important). It is a thicker fabric than many of my other tops, and is plenty long in the waist. Thanks again, Patagonia!
