Offering full-arm warmth and sun protection, our neoprene-free R1® Lite Yulex® Long-Sleeved Top is made of 1.5mm 85% natural rubber/15% synthetic rubber by polymer content. Replacing a petroleum-based material with a plant-based one, it offers the same performance attributes as conventional stretch neoprene while reducing CO2 emissions by up to ~80% in the manufacturing process. Derived from sources that are Forest Stewardship Council® certified by the Rainforest Alliance, we blend the natural rubber with chlorine-free synthetic rubber to increase ozone- and UV-resistance and meet our rigorous standards for strength, stretch and durability. The interior lining is stretchy and fast-drying 100% recycled polyester; the streamlined anatomical design holds snug to the body for maximum flex. Other features include a vertical front-zip entry with corrosion-proof Salmi® zipper and an easy-access key loop. The exterior face fabric is made of durable, water-resistant 88% recycled polyester/12% spandex; seams are sewn with flatlock construction for next-to-skin comfort and durability. Suggested water temperatures: 65–75° F/18–23° C.

We stand behind everything we make, including our wetsuits. But wetsuits require care if they are going to perform and wear the way they were intended. Patagonia is not responsible for wetsuits that are abused or show normal wear and tear over time. Scratches and fading are inevitable, as are tears from the occasional close call with a fin. Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Biorubber

When we started making wetsuits, we quickly identified neoprene as a material that needed improvements to lessen its environment impact. So we met with the folks from Yulex who wanted to leverage the unique properties of the guayule plant, a hearty desert shrub native to the southwestern United States. Thus began a collaborative long-term project to develop a wetsuit material from guayule rubber.

Compared to traditional neoprene made from petroleum (or limestone), guayule rubber is a renewable resource that provides improved elasticity and softness and can be replaced faster than the product wears out. The agriculture is low-impact and the extraction and processing uses little energy and few chemicals.

Overall, from the crops to the rubber manufacturing, Yulex® guayule rubber has a lower environmental impact than the polychloroprene that it replaces.

Women's R1® Lite Yulex® Long-Sleeved Top is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far, good I have only worn this one while snorkeling in the Caribbean so keep that in mind as you read this review. I am 118 pounds because it's winter but usually weigh about 114 in the summer and am 5'4" and am 35.5 in the bust (32C) and have a 28" waist and 37.5" hips. I plan to wear it in the summer where I live in New England, where the ocean temps stay in the mid-60s even in August. I originally ordered a 6 and it went on fine but wasn't super snug as I thought it would be so I ordered a 4. The 4 was tight but I could still move my arms and after consulting the Patagonia Surf Shop in California and talking at length with a female associate who has the same jacket, I decided to keep the 4. She told me it's supposed to be tight and that it would give after several uses and stretch a smidge. (The size chart is way off. I should be an 8 according to the chart.) I wore it over a one-piece bathing suit while snorkeling and it was tight when I put it on standing at the dock, but once in the water it felt fine. The water was about 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Normally, I'd be able to only stay in the water a few minutes, but this jacket allowed me to stay in for a lot longer. I wasn't swimming, which would've generated heat. I was mostly floating around and the jacket kept my core warm. One thing that bothers me is that this jacket arrives just folded in a bag and because of that it has creases in the shoulder area that don't come out. I was told my the Patagonia clerk that it would come with some sort of inflatable core for the arms but it didn't. I don't like those creases. I hope in time they will go away.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great! snug I use this for river surfing, order a size up. I usually am everything 8 but I got a 10. It is still super snug as it should be.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Weird Fit The sleeves of this top fit snug and perfectly, but the torso and belly are way too big and baggy. I have an athletic build, 5'7 140 lbs but I wear a size XS/S/sometimes M top in most brands. I bought some Patagonia flannels size 4 and they fit perfectly. I bought a size 6 for this wetsuit top because I wanted to make sure the sleeves were long enough. I tried it on dry once it arrived and it fit great. Once I wore it in the water, however, I noticed the belly fabrics stretched out significantly so much so that my coworkers commented that I should have purchased a smaller size. The sleeves fit perfectly and keep my arms warm. I feel that, given my body type and proportions, this top would be ideal for me when pregnant. The belly stretches out SO much! I cannot comment if the fit runs small or large. The sleeves fit tight while the belly fits loose. Very perplexing and disappointing! I wish I could return this top, but I have already worn it in saltwater.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from good I have been using this top for surfing and snorkeling/diving. I got a size 8 when I am usually a 6...and I feel like it is still a tad small. The arms kind of have a weird texture feeling inside. Kind of hurts/itchy. Also, when I am swimming the lower half back side rises up towards my shoulders more than I would like. I am not sure why it does this. I really want to like the top and will still use it. But I do have these issues with it that I listed :(

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Fit I bought this because I spend a good deal of time in Hawaii and surf early in the morning when it can be a little cool. I have 2 others by another brand and wanted to see how this one measured up - it fits just as is advertised. I have super long arms and this sleeve doesn't ride up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So much more comfortable than cheap neoprene So I bought this little number to accompany me on the Grand Canyon for 21 days and she did great. I must say I was also looking to purchase a full Yulex Farmer Jane but was woefully informed by a sales rep that Patagonia doesn't make them for women taller than 5'4"... yet. I was pretty bummed, but luckily they made this fine piece of gear in my size, which I judged to be a 10 and I was correct. (quick ref: I am 5'10", 150lbs with some lats to boot). The temp was perfect for warm days when things only got 'a little splashy'. When things got big splashy I would layer her over my neoprene 3mm farmer jane and under a splash top. Very smooth and comfy fit. I even did some sets of pushups to 'earn' extra beers in full regalia and didnt notice any mobility issues. Lucky I never had to really test her by swimming back to the boat after a rapid.
