We stand behind everything we make, including our wetsuits. But wetsuits require care if they are going to perform and wear the way they were intended. Patagonia is not responsible for wetsuits that are abused or show normal wear and tear over time. Scratches and fading are inevitable, as are tears from the occasional close call with a fin. Even with light winds and the sun climbing over the ridge, a morning session in the Islands still comes with a few shivers between sets. Made from high-quality 1.5mm neoprene with a fast-drying 100% recycled polyester lining that offers excellent comfort and stretch, the R1® Long-Sleeved Top gives you session-extending warmth without having to step up to a spring suit. Raglan sleeves and underarm gussets prevent chafing while paddling, and streamlined anatomical patterning ensures a close-to-body fit for maximum performance and flex. The full-length Vislon® zipper has a back flap for additional comfort, and heat-pressed cuffs and hem allow water to easily flush. Seams are sewn with flatlock construction, and critical seams and wear areas are secured with glue dots, 1cm bartacks and spot tape reinforcements for durability. The water-resistant exterior face fabric is made from 88% recycled polyester blended with 12% spandex for additional stretch. Suggested water temperatures: 60-65° F/16-18° C.

Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Women's R1 L/S Top is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Feels just right My new long sleeve wetsuit top fits just right. I did order it one size bigger then the recommended size from the chart. I got an 8 instead of a 6. I cannot complain so thank you Patagonia.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Did not work for me As a small, petite woman, I was thrilled about the wetsuit top, that is until I wore it for the first time. It is extremely tight under the arm pits, which is not what I need for swimming. The rest of the suit fit perfectly. Unfortunately, I had to send it back. The Patagonia staff member who talked me through the return process was so helpful. Kudos to her!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Runs small The suit definitely runs small. I am 5'1" and weigh 110 lbs. I typically wear XS or XXS clothing. According to the size guidelines, I should fit a 2 or 4. I ordered the 4 and found it too tight across the chest (I'm very small chested), across the armpits, and around the neckline. Ordered a size 6, which feels much more comfortable. Can't speak to the qualities of the wetsuit yet, but thought I would share my sizing experience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Kettle pond companion Can't wait to kayak in the kettle ponds around Wellfleet in September! But, I'm no fool...I will NEED this elegant garment to keep me cosy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Follow size chart I haven't used the product yet so can't give it a full review, but thought some comment on sizing might be useful for others. In Patagonia, I typically wear XS tops and size 2 bottoms (5'6", 120lbs). I bought sizes 6 and 8 (skeptical of the size chart), and found the 8 fits best (which is what the size chart told me) - the 6 pulled across the armpits and the sleeves were too short. So, I recommend following the size chart guidelines.
