Morning sun disperses last night’s frost, bringing to life a new day with new thoughts such as, Why are we climbing in the shade? For those frigid starts (we won’t judge your reasons), the highly refined construction and fabric of this Regulator® fleece trap heat and breathe freely. The main body relies on high-loft Polartec® Thermal Pro® recycled polyester fabric, which is superlight, wicking, compressible, stretchy and soft. R1® Polartec Power Grid® high/low grid panels wrap each cuff, and run along the underside of the arms and down the sides to improve fit, mobility and comfort range. The cuff’s spiral-stitch construction won’t constrict your forearms when you push up the sleeves; the softly lined inner collar and kissing-welt zipper garage go easy on the neck and chin; Sonic/Stitch seam construction on all zippers reduces bulk; offset shoulder seams stay clear of pack straps; zippers close the external pockets (one chest and two handwarmers, above harness line), while the handwarmers’ pocket bags double as stealthy internal mesh drop-in pockets.
  • Exceptionally warm, directionally knit Polartec® Thermal Pro® fabric is breathable, compressible, wicks moisture and dries quickly
  • R1® Polartec Power Grid™ on side panels, sleeves and cuffs for improved fit, breathability and abrasion resistance
  • Technical fit, underarm gussets and raglan sleeves for increased mobility and comfort under outerwear and packs
  • All zippers have Sonic/Stitch seam construction to reduce bulk and improve suppleness; soft kissing-welt zipper garage at chin for next-to-skin comfort
  • Spiral-seam construction at cuff allows sleeves to push up easily without constricting forearms
  • One left-chest pocket and two high handwarmer pockets have Slim Zip installs, clean-finished zipper garages, and are harness- and pack-compatible; two interior drop-in mesh pockets
  • Body: 6.1-oz Polartec® Thermal Pro® 97% polyester (63% recycled)/3% spandex. Side panels and cuffs: 6.3-oz Polartec Power Grid™ 93% recycled polyester/7% spandex. Fabric is bluesign® approved

bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fleece jacket - so great, I need two! This is my favorite fleece that I own and it's perfect for perfect, I will be getting a second color. I'm 5'10 and 145 lbs with broad kayaking shoulders L fits me great.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Miss the Old Version I lost my old R2 on a trail in Rocky Mountain National Park, and tried replace it. The new version is very thin, the zippers are stiff, the thumb loops are gone, the elastic edging at the base is gone as well, so the jacket feels very sloppy and long.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best jacket EVER This jacket is extremely lightweight and comfortable. I've been wearing it non-stop since I received it. It is great for hiking and traveling but also good to throw on after working out. I'm 5'9, 135 lbs and the medium allowed enough room to layer underneath.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best fleece ever I have many fleeces including several by patagonia but this is the best by far. It is a technical piece- the arms move without any restriction, the bottom does not ride up, and the side panels breathe. It is amazing how well it works in so many different conditions. Layer under a shell, or coat for work; wear alone in spring weather, throw it on for lounging around the house. I find myself throwing it on for nearly every activity and as a layer for the morning commute. The tailored grey is beautiful because of the contrasting stitching and is a pet hair friendly color. The 2016 version is superior to the earlier versions in my opinion. As it doesn't ride up, you don't need thumb holes and I prefer the fleece extending to the bottom over the earlier versions which had stretch panels on the bottom. I did have to go up a size because the new slim fit seems made for skinny teenagers. I own several of these, because I don't ever want to be without it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Higher Hopes I have been a long time lover of Patagonia for over 15 years, touting their products as the best, and encouraging friends to try the gear. I had been wearing a previous version of this jacket for almost 5 years when the zipper broke on it, so I decided to order the new one. While it is softer then the previous one, it is substantially thinner, and thus has stretched a great deal. The zipper on the front and pockets look "baconed" and wavy. I doesn't fit well anymore and I am very disappointed in the jacket. I've had it for several months, but can't foresee it being of much use for too much longer the way it fits. My warning: don't put anything in the pockets- even just a cell phone- because it will stretch out. Bummed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Daughter Perfet Got this for my daughter who says it's warm, light and very cool looking seeing as how she can wear it under her hoody sweatshirt. I think she like it most because it makes her look thin......

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for everything! I wore this jacket basically for a whole month while backpacking New Zealand. It was perfect for wearing around town, hiking, rock climbing, layering, basically you can do anything and everything in this bad boy. The breathable side panels are what made this the best thing ever while backpacking. My friends wore their snap T fleece while trekking, and would continuously get over heated and sweaty. The R2 kept me at the perfect temperature. It was breathable while hiking with my pack on, and still kept me warm when we would stop for breaks. I would layer with my torrent shell when it got too windy or cold, and it packs pretty small for when it got too warm. Highly suggest this jacket!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Get 2014-2015 version if you can I was exceptionally lucky to get 2014-2015 version of this jacket - it has everything I could wish for and nothing that I do not. It gets as high on pedestal of Patagonia's "best in class" items as my 2004 R1 pullover (with micro R1 on the bottom of the sleeves and a chest pocket) and the 1999 Rhythm Rock Capris. Miraculously - or due to Patagonia's exceptional workmanship - I still have both. R2 is, arguably, Patagonia's most versatile jacket - warm enough on its own in the summer/early fall/late spring days, yet a perfect mid-layer (due to breathable R1 side panels) under a gore-tex shell. After many years of disastrous squarish arm/shoulder connection, classic raglan sleeve is also back in business, which means no scuffing under your backpack. The R2/R1 fabric is legendary - this is Patagonia at its best. Unfortunately, this season pockets are moved closer to the front (they were ideally placed prior) and the R1 fabric on the bottom of the jacket (which provided glove-like fit) is now replaced with far less fitting R2.
