Learn More Close
A little more than 150 years ago, a knitted, striped top became standard-issue for French navy seamen. Our striped Shallow Seas Top is so comfortable and versatile, it will also become part of your warm-weather uniform. It’s made from an organic cotton/Tencel® lyocell jersey blend (55%/45%) that places Tencel next to the skin where it wicks moisture away from the body. The shirt has a scooped neckline with dropped shoulder detail, three-quarter-length sleeves, a rolled fixed cuff and a straight hemline with side slit and slightly longer back. Length falls to waist.

Wrinkle Resistant

TENCEL® is a branded lyocell fiber that comes from the pulp of trees that are grown on sustainably run farms certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

The eucalyptus wood pulp is dissolved in a non-toxic organic solvent. The solution is extruded through fine holes to produce fiber and the solvent is recycled in a closed-loop process – more than 99% of the solvent is recovered and reused. We ensure that the fabric processing of TENCEL® lyocell fiber does not utilize any harmful chemicals (like formaldehyde).

TENCEL lyocell is a high-tenacity cellulosic fiber, which gives high strength properties to the fabric which can then be used in place of other regenerated cellulose fibers such as viscose rayon.

Organic Cotton

In 1996, with an increased awareness of the dangers of pesticide use and synthetic fertilizers in growing conventional cotton, we began the exclusive use of organically grown cotton in all of our cotton products.

The quality of organic cotton is equal to or better than conventionally grown cotton, yet organically grown methods support biodiversity and healthy ecosystems, improve the quality of soil and often use less water. Growing organically takes more time, requires more knowledge and skill, and, for now, costs more. But it’s worth it.

To ensure we are buying cotton that is organic as defined by the USDA’s National Organic Program, we require numerous certificates issued by an accredited third-party certification body for every step of the supply chain, from farm to factories.

Women's Shallow Seas Top is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing I bought this shirt at a Patagonia store in states and I really loved it specially that it was Fair trade and organic. But I wore this shirt maybe 3 times and I washed it only twice (cold/ eco warm) and I hung it to dry and after the second wash I noticed couple of holes in it (I only had similar clothes in the machine). I try to shop from ethical company and I have been happy with all my Patagonia clothes and I am grateful that Patagonia provide ethical clothing options. However, this shirt does not worth it, it is a waste.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Contemporary Twist on Classic Piece Sailor stripe shirt is a wardrobe essential or so I'm told by those who pay more attention to those things than I do. This top is comfortable and looks nice. It's neat enough for a casual work environment or if you are out with friends. A little too dressy to wear in the back country.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good fit, does shrink This shirt has a flattering fit. I love the style and design. The cuffs are a little tighter than would be expected. It does shrink when washed/dried and unfortunately doesn't look nearly as good afterward. Might try not drying the shirt in order to keep it looking sharp.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good in the torso, tight in the arms This is a very soft and comfortable material and I love the style of the shirt. I do however feel that the arm cuffs are a tad tight. I am not the hulk or anything, (5'6", 115 lbs) but I am athletic and I returned the xs for the small just because of the cuff tightness. Otherwise the torso fit well. I usually wear an xs in all tops.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great top!! I got this top in 3 colors. I'm usually a medium but I had to get small so I think it runs a little big. I'm 136 5'4" and small fits just right. I don't use the dryer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Comfy and cute This is a cute top and the fabric is very soft feeling making it feel comfy. I can wear it to work. The cuff is slightly tight – probably just fine for the non-athletic.
