In the big mountains, bombproof weather protection can help you keep it together while everything else is falling apart. The Super Alpine Jacket protects against the worst possible weather with the best available waterproof/breathable and windproof fabrics. It features a light-yet-durable 3-layer nylon new generation GORE-TEX® Pro fabric with a DWR (durable water repellent) finish and key-area reinforcements, and a technical fit with a slim torso and long hem. The two harness-compatible handwarmer pockets have a single-pleat design that lets you see your feet but also allows the pockets to expand without bulky seams. Trim, watertight zippers for the pockets and pit-zips are laminated in place to reduce weight and bulk; a small internal zippered chest pocket stows small valuables. The underarm gussets keep the jacket in place when you lift your arms, and the streamlined Gasket Dry Cuffs still seal out the elements at the wrists. Our adjustable, helmet-compatible Optimal Visibility Hood™ has a laminated visor and the sleek Touch Point System™ embedded cord locks (in the hood and hem) allow for easy adjustment without opening the jacket.
  • Built with two lightweight, fine-deniered GORE-TEX® Pro fabrics for uncompromised, durable waterproofness and a wide range of breathability
  • Technical fit has a slim torso and longer hem length that reduces bulk and stays put under a harness
  • Optimal Visibility Hood™ with laminated visor provides exceptional coverage and visibility, and allows total range of unrestricted motion
  • Touch Point System® with embedded cord locks in hood and hem for quick-and-easy adjustment
  • Gusseted underarm panels reduce lift when reaching overhead and have minimal pit-zips for venting
  • Two high single-pleat pockets with watertight, coated Slim Zips increase capacity without added seams; interior zip pocket
  • Pleated Gasket Dry Cuffs with Tapered Tab design provide a secure low-profile wrist seal
  • Shell: 3-layer, 3.2-oz 40-denier 100% nylon GORE-TEX Pro fabric. Reinforcements: 3-layer, 3.7-oz 40-denier 100% nylon ripstop GORE-TEX® Pro fabric. Shell and reinforcements have a DWR (durable water repellent) finish

Water Resistant

(durable water repellent) fabric finish repels light rain and snow and decreases dry times. When DWR is used in conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

GORE-TEX Pro products have a 3-layer construction that comprises a special high performance GORE-TEX membrane, bonded to a tough outer material and a specially developed robust inner lining. The benefit: no movement between the three layers for exceptional durability and the option of combining the layers with insulation.

The GORE-TEX® membrane has 9 billion pores per square inch, with each pore 20,000 times smaller than a water droplet. These tiny holes are too small for water and wind to pass through from the outside. But these same pores are large enough for moisture vapor to pass through, so your body's perspiration is able to escape and you won’t feel clammy or uncomfortable inside your jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All around jacket I bought this a month ago - did not have a chance to try it out in the rain until today. Stayed warm and dry on a 4 hour walk in continuous rain.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rain/Snow Didn't Stop Me Fly Fishing I've tested this jacket in Tasmania's showers on their east coast and northern plains to wet snow in the Cascades and heavy rains on the west coast. This jacket has not let me down. The triple-layer Gortex keeps me completely dry. Even with intense Tasmanian winds and getting a hook in the back! The ventilation zippers cool me down when I'm hiking or XC skiing. It's light and packs down fairly well. The only odd characteristic is the hood, since it is made to fit a helmet it takes some adjusting sans helmet, but its well worth having both options. The bottom of the jacket is a little snug around the hips too, so I've caught myself wishing for a bottom zipper more than once!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Pockets weren't water proof and my phone got wet I went for a run in the rain(because these jackets are supposed to be for being active) with my phone in my pocket and at the end both pockets(sealed at the zippers) had puddles of water and ruined my phone. Really disappointed with quality and now I have to buy a new phone. :(

Rated 2 out of 5 by from New version flimsy I love Patagonia's stuff so I hate to do this, but I am really disappointed with the 2014/2015 version of this. I have the 2013/2014 version, and having tried the new one on in the store it has not changed in a good way. The old version(s) used 90-denier (I think) Gore-Tex for the reinforcements, but the new one uses 40-denier, same as the rest of the jacket, although the reinforced areas do use a slightly heavier version. Although this has made it lighter, which is great, it doesn't feel nearly as durable - the material is thinner, and feels like it would wear much more quickly. The old one felt bulletproof. Also, they've changed the fit and now it is just odd! Supposedly they slimmed it down, but I wear a Small in the 2014 version and the Small in the 2015 version was too big for me. Vanity sizing???
