General Summary:
The Assistant Designer - Sportswear is part of a team of Designers which are ultimately responsible for the creation of relevant, innovative design concepts for the Company’s products. With a solid understanding of the Company philosophy and product knowledge, the Assistant Designer is responsible for ensuring that such product designs are of the highest quality, functional, beautiful, fit, and are fabricated in an environmental manner. The Assistant Designer will focus on the Sportswear Line and collaborate with other designers to design each seasonal collection. S/he will contribute to the creative process through seasonal research, the development of product ideations and presentations for the Sportswear Line. In addition, the Design Assistant will help support the greater Sportswear Design Team through 2D design review and through partnering with Product Development on fabric and trims concepts and manufacturing strategies.

Essential Job Functions:
o Effectively create relevant, innovative design concepts within the Sportswear Design Team and communicate and present these in a concise and professional manner through a line review process.
o Collaborate with Textile Design, Graphic Design and Color to ensure product specific elements are created specific to your category and designs.
o Provide product information through detailed drawings and complete check lists to Pattern Makers and Product Managers so that prototypes and BOM’s can be created.
o Work with the Design and Product Team members to ensure feasibility of designs which meet price points, merchandising needs and product creation timelines.
o Maintain knowledge of current trends, color, fabrics, trims, technology, and other sports related products through travel, research, and product usage experience.
o Actively participate in design off-sites, inspiration trips or other design related extra curricular activities.
o Participation in testing of products and fabrics in the field.

Physical Requirements:
o Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
o Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
o Ability to look at a computer screen for extended periods of time.
o Ability to maintain a composed and professional demeanor within a flexible and (at times noisy) work environment.
o Must be able to travel internationally and domestically utilizing various transportation methods.
o Participation and understanding of the sports that the Company produces products for.

Minimum Job Qualifications:
o BA, BFA or BS in Design required.
o 2 + years design experience in a related product category.
o Proficient in Adobe Illustrator with working knowledge of Photoshop, InDesign, Word, Excel, Outlook and WebPDM.
o Knowledge of garment construction, patterns and textiles required.
o Ability to apply, perform and manage design skills such as drawing/sketching, concept ideation, color theory, use of texture, spacing and scale, visual presentation development and layout.
o Extreme attention to detail required and a proven ability to establish and maintain schedules and deadlines.
o Understanding of line planning and product costing is a plus.
o Strong presentation and public speaking skills.
o Excellent customer service skills, in person, on the phone and in writing.
o Able to work well under pressure and deadlines.
o Ability to gather appropriate input and make clear, well-reasoned decisions.
o Comfortable with team-based work structure; ability to remain flexible to change within the work environment and scope of responsibility.
o Demonstrates initiative, is conscientious and provides complete follow-through on areas of responsibility.
