The Color Advisor- Technical Wovens is solely responsible for ensuring the quality and integrity of the Company’s seasonal colors as they are executed within various substrates of the Technical Woven category. To accomplish this, the Color Advisor manages multiple vendors, fabrics and color/fabric combinations per season. They interact closely with the Snow, Alpine and Technical Outerwear designers / teams. Developing relationships with the Company’s suppliers and dye houses domestically / internationally are key to their success in upholding brand integrity.
Essential Job Functions:
o Ability to understand the Munsell color system and communicate color discrepancies.
o Ability to see color discrepancies visually and use color lab equipment when necessary.
o Use PLM to gather color information for every product each season and acquire new or changing fabric information from Material Development.
o Initiate seasonal lab dip requests to fabric vendors for all styles.
o Review lab dips testing results to ensure they meet the Company’s quality standards.
o Support Quality Assurance by defining and communicating the Company’s color quality criteria to all vendors during the lab dip, and bulk production process.
o Make sure all fabrics amongst suppliers within each garment are matching where essential.
o Maintain color integrity throughout the line across fabrics styles.
o Interact with fabric engineers to reference equipment for color as it relates to fabric construction during color evaluation.
o Provide fabric and color information to various departments and individuals throughout the company as needed, i.e. Design, Production, Product Development etc.
o Review all production fabric submits to ensure color consistency.
o Utilize PLM and/or production calendar to ensure all deadlines are being met.
o Work closely with the fabric engineers and production teams to resolve color issues on production raw materials to ensure timely garment deliveries.
o Create and maintain product files for each season and update files accordingly.
o Work closely with both domestic and international suppliers.
o Ability to sit/stand for extended periods of time.
o Ability to look at a computer screen for extended periods of time.
o Ability to maintain a composed and professional demeanor within a flexible and (at times noisy) work environment.
o Ability to travel utilizing various methods of transportation.
o An innate ability to see color discrepancies.
Minimum Job Qualifications:
o Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Textile/Polymer/Color Science, Art, Fashion Design).
o 3+ years experience in working in a color lab.
o Understanding of finishing applications, coatings and laminates.
o Keen understanding of color theory, the spectrophotometer, CIELAB and CMC color systems.
o Proficient computer skills (Word, Excel, Microsoft Office), basic knowledge of PLM.
o Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
o Self directed with strong ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
o Effective interpersonal skills; able to work well with a variety of people.
o Strong organizational skills; detail oriented.
