General Summary:
The Director of US Retail Stores for Patagonia Inc. (the “Company”) is responsible for the successful operation of all of the Company’s domestic in-line and outlet retail locations. In collaboration with the VP, Global Retail, s/he creates strategic direction for the Company’s retail stores that is consistent with the Company’s overall strategic initiatives. S/he ensures the elements comprising the Company’s mission and core values are consistently communicated through the retail stores and the store environment reflects those commitments. This position will ensure consistent execution of all Company processes, initiatives, and programs while maintaining flexibility to respond to future business needs and directives. On an as-needed basis s/he will support the Company’s global retail operations, most importantly ensuring a consistent and rewarding shopping experience for the Company’s retail customers world-wide.

Essential Job Functions:
o In collaboration with VP, Global Retail, establish strategic direction and high level initiatives for the Company’s stores in alignment with current Company strategic initiatives and direction.
o Maximize profitability across all North American Stores, analyze sales and anticipate sales trends, coordinate sales plans, pricing, inventory distribution and staffing. Work with retail leaders responsible for inventory assortment, supply planning, visual merchandising, distribution, operational support, and marketing to develop tactical action plans to support the Company’s sales and merchandise strategy.
o Work with Regional & District Managers and the Company’s Human Resources (HR) staff to support all domestic stores in the hiring, evaluation, motivation, and recognition of store employees.
o Direct the Regional & District Managers in the development and implementation of training programs for retail store staff, addressing product knowledge, sales skills, customer service, and environmental issues.
o Develop and train ‘next level of leadership’ in the organization in anticipation of future demands of the business.
o Ensure Regional, District, and Store Managers collaborate to establish and evaluate effective use of merchandise presentation standards in order to maximize sales.
o Work with the Inventory Planning, Merchandising & Visual Merchandising groups to create effective assortment plans and feedback sessions regarding merchandise assortments and inventory levels.
o Ensure the store environment demonstrates the same commitment to high quality standards as our merchandise.
o Identify systems that will improve store operations and allow for better customer service. Assess the value added and cost related to system upgrade or implementation. Communicate with VP, Global Retail and Retail Operations Manager.
o Visits to stores include assessment of the following areas: visual merchandising, personnel, sales and customer service, environmental commitment, stock room, operations, store maintenance.
o Create a culture of accountability by ensuring that operational metrics are achieved, budgeted expenses are attained, and standard operating procedures are consistently followed.

Other Job Functions:
o The Director of US Retail Stores may, from time to time, be assigned additional duties consistent with the position.

Physical Requirements:
o Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
o Ability to look at a computer screen for extended periods of time.
o Ability to maintain a composed and professional demeanor within a flexible and, at times, noisy work environment.
o Must be able to travel both domestically and internationally utilizing various transportation methods.

Minimum Job Qualifications:
o Ten (10) or more years retail management experience with at least three (5) of those years in a senior level field retail management position.
o Demonstrated ability to build effective teams and motivate employees.
o Knowledge of effective merchandise presentation standards.
o Commitment to proactively support environmental initiatives and all company policies and initiatives in this area.
o Extensive knowledge and in-depth understanding of retail concepts and terminology.
o Ability to operate effectively in multiple computer programs including, but not limited to, Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
o Strong initiative, drive, and strategic planning skills.
o An ability to prioritize amongst many competing demands to ensure that short-term goals supporting long-term initiatives are achieved with an appropriate sense of urgency.
o Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, via phone, in-person, and email/text.
o Good problem solving skills and desire to support and explain company values.
o Out of the box thinker; a visionary who creates strategies and turns them into concrete tactical plans.
