General Summary:

The Patagonia Creative Group is a full service in-house studio providing design, editorial, photographic, print, and electronic creative services to develop and maintain Patagonia’s global visual identity.

The Creative Director, Outdoor is a senior member of the Creative team overseeing all creative for the Outdoor product categories: Climbing, Snow, Performance Baselayers, Trail Running, Equipment, and Fly Fishing. The Creative Director oversees a team of Art Directors, Designers, Copy Editors, and Photo Editors in bringing the Company’s marketing initiatives to life in all media. The Creative Director partners with the Global Marketing Director, Outdoor to refine marketing concepts and bring them to life in any/all media. The Director follows through on Art Direction for channels and regions from brief to street (or stream as the case may be).

The Creative Director works in collaboration with the Director of Creative Production to produce all marketing collateral and deliver creative assets and direction globally. In addition, the Creative Director will partner with the Global Executive Creative Director and the Creative Director, Brand to define and maintain the global Patagonia brand standards and visual identity.

Essential Job Functions:
o Delivers creative that is authentic and relevant to the core sport cultures in the Outdoor category: Climbers, Skiers, Trail Runners, Fly Fishermen, etc.
o Deliver exciting creative solutions that break the mold of the outdoor industry and set a new paradigm for the Company.
o Responsible for determining which creative output (print, web, film, etc.) best supports marketing objectives and storytelling needs.
o Establish a strategic plan to activate the brand culturally across all media.
o Partner with Director of Visual Design, and Art Director for Web to ensure that stories are told in a consistent way across channels.
o Takes a leadership role in establishing and maintaining a global visual identity for the Company in all regions and verticals.
o Build a best-in-class Creative team through continuous improvement.
o Accesses external talent for creative development and execution as necessary particularly in video and other areas not staffed internally.

Physical Requirements:
o Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
o Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
o Ability to look at a computer screen for extended periods of time.
o Ability to maintain a composed and professional demeanor within a flexible and (at times noisy) work environment.

Minimum Job Qualifications:
o 7+ years experience in creative leadership.
o Proven track record of delivering authentic and relevant creative across various media.
o Superior knowledge of how to use creative to activate marketing stories across various media.
o Superior knowledge of typography and design.
o Superior graphic design expertise.
o Knowledge and experience of Digital film and color processes for both e-commerce and print applications.
o Strong mentoring and team-building experience
o Ability to be flexible within the job to ensure the best processes/systems for smooth completion of all projects.
o Capable of streamlining and improving processes, and troubleshooting.
o Ability to remain flexible to change within the work environment and scope of responsibility.
o Demonstrates initiative, is conscientious and provides complete follow-through on areas of responsibility.
o Participation and understanding of the sports that the Company produces products for.
