General Summary:

The Patagonia Creative Group is a full service in-house studio providing design, editorial, photographic, print, and electronic creative services to develop and maintain the company’s global visual identity.

The Surf Art Director is a senior member of the Creative Team overseeing all creative for the Patagonia Surf category. The Art Director oversees a team consisting of a Designer, Copy Editor, and Photo Editor in bringing Patagonia Surf’s marketing initiatives to life in all media. The Art Director partners with the Global Surf Marketing Director to refine marketing concepts and bring them to life in any/all media. The Art Director follows through on Art Direction for channels and regions from brief to street (or sea as the case may be). The Art Director works in collaboration with the Director of Creative Production to produce all marketing collateral and deliver creative assets and direction globally.

The Art Director partners with the Global Executive Creative Director, the Creative Director, Brand and the Creative Director, Outdoor to define and maintain the global Patagonia brand standards and visual identity.

Essential Job Functions:
o Delivers creative that is authentic and relevant to the surf culture.
o Deliver exciting creative solutions that break the mold of the surf and action sports industry and set a new paradigm for Patagonia.
o Partner with Director of Visual Design, and Art Director for Web to ensure that surf stories are told in a consistent way across channels.
o Responsible for determining which creative output (print, web, film, etc.) best supports marketing objectives and storytelling needs.
o Access external talent for creative development and execution as necessary particularly in video and other areas not staffed internally.
o Build a best-in-class Creative team through continuous improvement.
o Takes a leadership role in establishing and maintaining a global visual identity for Patagonia in all regions and verticals.

Physical Requirements:
o Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
o Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
o Ability to look at a computer screen for extended periods of time.

Minimum Job Qualifications:
o 5+ years experience in creative leadership
o Strong mentoring and team-building experience
o Superior knowledge of how to use creative to activate marketing stories across various media
o Superior graphic design expertise
o Superior knowledge of typography and design
o Able to use print processes and materials in innovative ways.
o Knowledge and experience of Digital film and color processes for both e-commerce and print applications.
o Proven track record of delivering strong creative
o Proven ability to think across media about how to activate the brand culturally.
