The Senior Inventory Accountant is responsible for performing the day to day responsibilities and oversight of Inventory and Cost Accounting. Primary responsibilities include month end close process and related analysis, account reconciliations and providing support for management reporting. S/he must have strong analytical and problem solving skills and the ability to propose and implement solutions/process efficiencies and best practices to current organizations and any new business.
Essential Job Functions:
Month end close:
o Review, analyze and record journal entries related to overhead absorption and purchase price variance.
o Analyze and record related accruals related for standard cost and inventory for the period.
o Perform gross margin analysis, provide analysis of drivers for margin.
o Review and investigate unusual items.
o Inventory reserves and monitoring of obsolescence.
o Journal entries related to period end close.
o Margin performance analysis
o Monitoring Actual cost vs. Standard cost
o Monitoring Purchase price variance
o Liaise with operations on changes/updates to overhead rates and standard cost
Accounting processes/controls assist:
o Point person for Canadian and US warehouse cycle counting/controls
o Liaise with Retail stores for inventory controls
o Oversight over Wholesale sample inventory
o Non AX process integration into g/l (Island Pacific and Commercialware)
o Work with internal IT staff as well as third parties to develop or improve margin reporting.
Other Job Functions:
o Provide support for year-end financial audits including preparation of audit schedules and addressing auditor inquiries.
o Provide support for Merchandise Accounts Payable, Retail, E-Commerce, Wholesale and other business units on how certain transactions should be processed in order that they are properly reflected in the Company’s financial statements.
o Perform special accounting projects at the request of upper management.
o Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
o Must be able to look at a computer screen for prolonged periods of time.
o Ability to maintain a composed and professional demeanor within a flexible and (at times noisy) work environment.
o Must be available for occasional domestic travel.
Minimum Job Qualifications:
o BS/BA degree with accounting or business-related degree preferred. Some Accounting coursework required.
o Minimum 5-7 years’ experience working in inventory or cost accounting. Experience can be a combination of public accounting and private industry experience.
o Experience in vertically integrated retail/wholesale/e-commerce business
o Experience working with a large general ledger package.
o Working knowledge of Word and Excel.
o Able to work well under pressure and deadlines.
o Comfortable with team-based work structure.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
o AX Microsoft, Atlas, Cognos, Island Pacific, Commercialware, TradeCard and PowerPoint related experience.
o Advanced Excel and data management skills
o Experience working with a report-writing tool.
