General Summary:
The Production Manager of Lifestyle is responsible for building and maintaining vendor relationships, analyzing product costs, and delivering quality product in a timely, consistent manner. In conjunction with the Company’s Demand Planners, s/he will set up the seasonal buy schedules; develop manufacturing plans and strategies that address the Company’s delivery and margin goals. The Production Manager will work with Product Developers to ensure pending development issues are finalized for production, and that FOB costs are finalized in time for FOB quotes review. S/he will assist Sourcing Managers in cost analysis and set up target FOB’s in preparation for final FOB negotiations. The Production Manager will also lead efforts in training new factories and maintaining consistent performance at existing factories to meet Patagonia’s social, environmental and quality standards.

Essential Job Functions:
o Actively work with the Merchandising and Design staff to anticipate future sportswear technologies and how they can be achieved through the Company’s current factory network. As needed, develop new vendors that are capable of producing highly technical product using advanced manufacturing techniques.
o Actively work with Material and Product Developers to address any known logistics issues with material selection early in the season.
o Prior to sales samples and bulk orders being placed, actively work with Product Developers to ensure BOM costing deadlines are met and all pending development issues are finalized according to seasonal calendars.
o Work with Sourcing Managers to set up target FOB’s and assist in the price negotiations for all product falling within the Sportswear category; strive to achieve the Company’s goals for gross margin and profitability. Manage negotiations in a way that builds partnerships, while at the same time, results in the fairest possible prices.
o Work with Demand Planners to develop and manage manufacturing plans for the production of salesman samples, photo samples, check runs and bulk orders.
o Work with Material Development, Lab and Production Coordinators to ensure that all manufacturing plans are supported with timely raw material deliveries, and meet the respective department’s lead time objectives.
o Work to ensure that each vendor meets and attains capacity/delivery/margin requirements, social compliance certification, and quality assurance standards, in addition to continually reducing their environmental footprint.
o Promote and reinforce the Company’s quality standards through active communication with the Company’s Quality Assurance staff. Lead the effort to identify where Quality Assurance resources are best utilized, and work cooperatively to insure that all bulk production orders leave the factory defect free.
o Maintain open and frequent communication with Merchandising, Design, Product Development, Raw Material Buyers, Logistics, and Finished Goods Buyers on all issues relating to quality, delivery, social compliance and environmental objectives.
o Responsible for the management and review of weekly Work In Progress [WIP] reporting from the factories. General responsibilities will include, but not be limited to: the analysis of the weekly WIP reports and identifying and communicating any irregularities to the Production department for review and action, and maintaining all dates accurately in the system.
o Work with Logistics and Forwarders to ensure accurate and timely movement of shipments.

Physical Requirements:
o Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.

o Ability to look at a computer screen for extended periods of time.
o Ability to maintain a composed and professional demeanor within a flexible and (at times noisy) work environment.
o Must be able to travel extensively both domestically and internationally utilizing various transportation methods.
o Participation, understanding and working knowledge of the sports that the Company produces products for.

Minimum Job Qualifications:
o B.A. / B.S. degree required.
o Minimum of 4 years experience in sourcing and production planning with global suppliers.
o Experience working with printed t-shirts and/or knitwear a strong plus.
o Working knowledge of personal computers with experience in the use of such programs as Word, Excel and Outlook.
o ERP systems experience a strong plus.
o Demonstrated customer service and communication skills. The ability to write clearly and persuasively in addition to defining problems and articulating solutions within a group setting.
o Comfortable with team-based work structure; ability to demonstrate flexibility on the job.
o Demonstrates initiative, is conscientious and provides complete follow-through on all areas of responsibility.
