Add the Kamala to your set of travel converters - it's a skirt that transforms into a halter dress. Lightweight organic cotton/Tencel® (55%/45%) fabric has a smooth, breeze-catching drape. Worn as a skirt: the wide cinched, shirred waistband adjusts with ties on one side, and the A-line shape falls below the knee. As a dress: the doubled waistband converts to a bandeau-style bodice that ties behind the neck; above-the-knee hem. Waist-to-hem length is 30". Recyclable through the Common Threads Recycling Program.

Technology

At Patagonia we seek to build the best product and cause no unnecessary harm. That's our mission statement, and it takes many forms. As it applies to making products, we work hard to source materials and use processes that are less harmful to the Earth without compromising quality. Because to us, quality is not only how well a product performs and holds up, but also how it's made.

  • The Good:

A versatile fabric in an intimate, soft-wearing blend of 55% organic cotton and 45% Tencel®, an environmentally sensitive cellulose-based fiber that drapes beautifully, has the moisture-wicking properties of polyester and provides nice stretch without the use of spandex. It’s also durable, wrinkle-free and easy to care for.
  • The Bad:

The fabric is not yet recyclable in a closed loop process, though we’re working on it. Unlike polyester, the cotton/Tencel blend has to be mechanically recycled (chopped up) to yield a new fiber (and fabric) of lesser quality than the original. Note that cotton/Tencel, like 100% cotton, uses significantly more water than do polyester, nylon and other synthetics.
  • What We Think:

The fabric offers exceptional performance, a soft hand and relatively less environmental harm than many alternatives. Future recyclability will be a plus.
