Course: Certified 5K course on a flat dirt road along the Ventura River.
The 16th Annual Salmon Run was held on Sunday, November 8th and was a great success. Under sunny November skies we had a big turnout, incredible prizes, a great race and smiles all around. The beneficiary for this year’s run was the Matilija Coalition, committed to the environmental restoration of the Ventura River watershed in our own backyard.
There were approximately 375 runners, walkers and joggers entered in this year’s event. The first place runner was from Carpinteria and came in under 19 minutes. The second place winner was a 12-yr. old boy from Santa Barbara who came in at 19:28. We generated over $11,000 for Matilija Coalition and received donations from over 40 organizations, individuals and artists for the raffle and silent auction. The Salmon Run raffle and auction have become notorious in Ventura County for the quality and number of prizes. We raised over $6,000 alone with the goods and services that were donated.
The Salmon Run attracted quite a few grassroots organizations, which set up tables for the event. Tabling at the event were the Matilija Coalition, Los Padres Forest Watch, Ventura Hillside Conservancy, Santa Barbara Channelkeeper, Environmental Defense Center, Friends of the Santa Clara River, South Coast Habitat Restoration, CIMWI, Seal Watch, Keep the Sespe Wild, Friends of the California Condor, Channel Islands Native Plant Society, Dr. Ralph Wilson and The Restorative Exercise Institute.
