Things that make my motor purr: Heavy Metal! Red wine, sharp metal objects, BIG mountains, single-speed mountain biking, reading the classics, deep powder, going fast, and mind-expanding climbing experiences (aka ‘big game hunting’).
All time favorites: The Karakoram, Darkthrone, Faust, the Black Canyon, old Sabbath, the Stanley Headwall, Amarone, American Psycho, El Caminos, and Red Mountain Pass
Blogs: Alpine Style!
Open description: A sometimes-manic speed freak dedicated to the whole-hearted, masochistic pursuit of True, Orthodox, Elitist, Cask-Strength Alpinism! Pain. No Bolts. Suffering. No Oxygen. Risk. No Fixed Rope. Friendship. No Radios. Commitment. No Circus. No Compromise. Full Speed Ahead!
Self absorbed? Sometimes. Obsessed? A little. Passionate? Definitely.
I bide my time rocking hard to underground metal and training for my next big adventure. Oh yeah, I (sort of) make a living by mountain guiding and am certified by the I.F.M.G.A. to do so. I provide these services to people in far-flung areas of the world like Norway, Alaska and the Alps.
In 2005, I managed to drag my carcass up the Rupal Face of Nanga Parbat with my good friend and spiritual advisor, Steve “Farmboy” House. He and I have shared a number of memorable adventures in the hills including making the first ascent of K7 West in Pakistan as well as scratching and dangling our way up a new route on the North Face of a wintry Mount Alberta in the Canadian Rockies.
Dream: West face of K2, ALPINE STYLE! It may be a little far-flung for me, but it gives me a bearing on which to set my compass.
