Reducing and Reusing Wherever Possible

Like polyester, virgin nylon fiber is made from crude oil. The recycled nylon we use in some of our products comes from post-industrial waste fiber and yarn collected from a spinning factory and processed into reusable nylon fiber.

Benefits of recycled nylon:

  • Uses no crude oil
  • Requires less energy and creates less CO2 pollution than virgin nylon
  • Reduces discards and incinerator emissions
  • Recyclable again at the end of its life

Common Threads Garment Recycling - Now Expanded

When we launched our Common Threads Garment Recycling program in 2005, we asked you to send us your tired, worn out Capilene® Performance Baselayers for recycling. We’ve now expanded the list of recyclable garments to include worn out Patagonia® fleece, Polartec® fleece clothing (from any maker), Patagonia cotton T-shirts, and some additional polyester and nylon 6 products that come with a Common Threads tag.
