Product Information Product Footprint
Our Quilt Again Jacket is made from wool scraps left on the cutting room floor. The reclaimed wool (39%) is mechanically recycled, then plaited with 56% recycled polyester and 5% nylon. The result has a durable wool exterior with channel-like quilting and a fleece interior for soft, next-to-skin comfort. Jacket features include offset shoulder seams for a comfortable ride under pack straps, raglan sleeves that allow freedom of movement for vertical pursuits, rib-knit cuffs and hem, two mesh-lined handwarmer pockets and a rounded hem for lower-back coverage. Recyclable through the Common Threads Recycling Program.

Technology

At Patagonia we seek to build the best product and cause no unnecessary harm. That's our mission statement, and it takes many forms. As it applies to making products, we work hard to source materials and use processes that are less harmful to the Earth without compromising quality. Because to us, quality is not only how well a product performs and holds up, but also how it's made.

  • The Good:

We love the fabric for its warmth and light footprint – and great story. Quilt Again fabric is made of a blend of scraps reclaimed from polyester garments and wool sweaters. Our wool recycler, the Italian company Calamai, does a wonderful job sorting the scraps into harmonious colors that don’t require dyeing, one of the textile industry’s most energy- and water-intensive processes.
  • The Bad:

Fall 2009 is the Quilt Again’s last season! Those of us who love the style will have to snap one up early. Why will we drop it? Insufficient sales to keep it in the line. Those of us who like the look and the enviro story are crushed. Our designers can live with the loss: the fabric blend puts constraints on freshening the look – and they would prefer a softer hand.
  • What We Think:

A great environmental story won’t keep a product alive unless customers love it in sufficient numbers. Soon the Quilt Again will go the way of other Patagonia cult classics like the Mason’s Bag and Bombachas.
