Product Information Product Footprint
Like a storage locker on wheels, the cavernous Freewheeler Max holds everything you need for an extended trip, a fishing pilgrimage or a skiing getaway. Its main compartment swallows all of your clothing and holds sundries in an interior mesh pocket; shoes and gear get their own zippered end section. The Max's light-colored lining makes contents easy to find. A retractable 2-position handle nimbly steers the load, which rolls smoothly on sturdy 80-mm wheels that provide plenty of clearance. With haul handles at both ends, external compression straps to cinch the load and/or attach bulky items, and batten supports on the sides that keep the bag standing upright (but collapse for easy storage). Impact-resistant skidplates withstand bumps and scrapes. Made from tough 1,200-denier 100% recycled polyester with a polyurethane coating and a DelugeĀ® DWR (durable water repellent) finish. Bottom is molded foam and ballistics nylon.

Material

Recycled Polyester
We recycle used soda bottles, unusable second quality fabrics and worn out garments into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Technology

At Patagonia we seek to build the best product and cause no unnecessary harm. That's our mission statement, and it takes many forms. As it applies to making products, we work hard to source materials and use processes that are less harmful to the Earth without compromising quality. Because to us, quality is not only how well a product performs and holds up, but also how it's made.

  • The Good:

The Freewheeler is durable and repairable; it uses recycled polyester for both the hard molded plastic and fabric components. We've eliminated PVC, and use no leather. We've minimized the use of webbing (which to date can't be made of recycled material).
  • The Bad:

The Freewheeler is heavy and its components are not recyclable.
  • What We Think:

Durability is an environmental benefit. Recyclability would be a plus. So would having in place resources to rebuild luggage (the hard component in most cases will outlast the fabric).
