Season these shoes to suit your mood. You can wear the slipperlike uppers by themselves, but with the all-natural latex outsoles in place these shoes are tough enough to tackle a burly hike to the farmers' market. Outsoles and uppers roll up or pack flat to fit in a briefcase or suitcase. Pigskin leather linings conform to the contours of your feet over time. A removable EVA footbed (20% recycled) and TPU footframe provide cushion and support; glue-free construction minimizes environmental impact.

  • The Good:

    If one of the three major components - upper, TPU frame or outsole - wears out faster than the others you can replace it without buying a whole new shoe. The Sugar & Spice also uses minimal glue. And you can leave the dirty, detachable outsole on the doormat when you wish.

  • The Bad:

    Because the individual components are separate, we should be able to recycle them as they wear out. But this practice is new to the footwear industry and we haven't yet developed the infrastructure with our suppliers to accomplish this.

  • What We Think:

    It's a great idea to make a shoe with replacement components and minimal glue. Plus the aesthetics are right. Next task: recyclability.
