Protect takayna / Tarkine

takayna / Tarkine in northwestern Tasmania is home to one of the last undisturbed tracts of old-growth rainforest in the world. Yet this place, which remains largely as it was when dinosaurs roamed the planet, is at the mercy of destructive extraction industries, including logging and mining.

Protect takayna / Tarkine

Support World Heritage Protection
For years, Australian activists have been fighting for protection for takayna / Tarkine and the end of rainforest logging in Tasmania. The region’s unique ecological and cultural characteristics meet several of the criteria for World Heritage protection outlined by UNESCO, but it remains at the mercy of extraction industries.

On November 27, 2018, the Bob Brown Foundation and Patagonia delivered over 250,000 signatures from 137 countries to the Tasmanian state and Australian federal parliaments. According to Parliamentary history, this was the largest environmental petition ever presented in Australia’s history.

We still need your voice: The 40-year fight to protect this area is a fight for the future of our last truly wild places.
